Something’s Not Right About This Transmigration - Chapter 18.1
Frey cursed and carefully approached the door.
Although he had expected it to be locked, the handle turned smoothly.
“Haa…….”
Maybe he wasn’t doomed after all.
Frey exhaled in relief, kept as quiet as possible, and slipped out of the room.
“The real Young Lord of House Rubellia? Have you lost your mind?”
“……Be quiet. My head is ringing.”
“Wouldn’t it be faster to persuade the person from earlier to heal the patients? Do you have any idea how much the people who paid us are raising hell right now?”
When Frey peered toward the voices, he saw one of the creditors who had barged into Leo’s house and the boy who had drawn his blood moments ago.
“Then just move somewhere else. We just won’t come back to this village.”
“Do you think it’s that easy? Isaac, go persuade him now. Grovel, apologize, and ask him to heal a few people.”
The boy, Isaac, snorted at the creditor.
“You don’t understand anything. The Count himself ordered me to develop a treatment for Rosifer. He put me in charge because he didn’t trust his son.”
“What?”
“What good is a man who collapses every time he treats one person? I’ll win the Count’s favor no matter what. Why else would he have told me to alter my appearance to look like the Young Lord?”
The veins in Isaac’s neck bulged as he spoke, as though all of this were Count Rubellia’s will. He ranted that he was the chosen one and had to act first without being told every detail.
“You crazy bastard……. That Young Lord Rubellia or whatever he’s called is marrying a duke soon!”
“…….”
“Do you think the Duke will stand by if you kill the person who is about to become his spouse?”
Of course he’d intervene.
“We took money from people when we don’t even have a treatment. What do you think will happen if this is discovered? Do you think it will end with us returning the money?”
“……I didn’t hear.”
“What?”
“That the Young Lord was marrying. The Count never told me.”
Isaac stared blankly at the creditor, his lips moving.
He had assumed Frey came alone to this rural village because something had happened between him and the Count.
Isaac had therefore thought that even if Frey disappeared, the incident could be written off as an immature noble’s reckless escapade.
But…….
“Why……? Why didn’t he tell me something like that……? If I’m going to take the Young Lord’s place, I should know all of it……. Why? Why……? He told me I could use that man’s name……!”
Isaac clutched his head and crumpled the paper in his hand. Frey slowly stepped backward at the sight of his unfocused, wavering eyes.
If Isaac had even a little sense, he would flee when he discovered Frey was gone.
The Count would undoubtedly cut him loose, and Isaac alone would have to bear responsibility for everything.
Unless he was an idiot, he would understand that a noble would not risk his life for a mere pawn.
“Wh-what do we……?”
“What do you mean? Pack your things! We have to stay alive first!”
The creditor urged him on, the veins in his neck bulging, but Isaac sat in a daze for a while.
But it didn’t last long.
“Then I’ll take his place in that marriage.”
“What?”
“I am not Isaac. I am the person who will become Frey Rubellia.”
Isaac slowly lifted his head as though something had occurred to him.
“They said Young Lord Rubellia rarely showed his face in public. That means the Duke may not know what he looks like.”
“What? You idiot, you said Young Lord Rubellia healed the former Duke. Then they may have met in the meantime……!”
“I have to kill him. Only when the Young Lord is dead can I become the real ‘Frey’.”
