Swallow Hunting - Chapter 41.2
If the door had been even slightly open, Hae Jun would have cursed at him just to show off, but that door was shut tight like a clamshell. It seemed the neighbor knew Lee Kang-ju had arrived. For a crazy bastard, his intuition was incredibly sharp.
“Shall we explain what happened here?”
Hae Jun first scanned Lee Kang-ju’s reaction, worried he might be angry. However, his face was calm. He must have seen the content of the graffiti with his own two eyes, yet he didn’t even let out a small laugh, let alone show rage. Because he was exactly the same as usual, Hae Jun doubted for a split second if he had misread the graffiti.
But that was impossible. Weren’t his arms still throbbing from hanging onto the door since early morning to erase it? Even Lee Kang-ju had asked with his own mouth first, saying there was some interesting graffiti. It couldn’t be a mistake.
“That is…”
Hae Jun let out a sigh first. What was bound to happen had happened. He had wanted to handle it himself if possible, but since it had been seen like this, there was no point in trying to hide it. He wiped his face with both hands and looked up at Lee Kang-ju.
“A crazy guy moved in next door.”
Hae Jun was being serious, but perhaps the sight was funny, because Lee Kang-ju covered his mouth and laughed softly. It’s the truth, Hae Jun thought as his eyes went round and he began to vent. He had intended to cut out the unnecessary parts and pick his words carefully, but Lee Kang-ju’s reaction set Hae Jun on fire.
“First he posted notes, then he came over saying it was too noisy, and a few days ago, he even put up that strange graffiti. Just in case, I asked the other neighbors, and they said they didn’t hear a thing. I feel so wronged. I even walked on my tiptoes on purpose whenever I was home because I was afraid that crazy guy would cause a scene.”
Even while pouring his heart out, Hae Jun did not raise his voice, fearing the neighbor might knock on the wall or the door. Lee Kang-ju sat on the edge of a chair and looked at the huffing Hae Jun. He had a relaxed posture, propping up his chin with his fingertips. He looked as though he wouldn’t be particularly surprised even if the crazy neighbor charged in swinging a knife.
“And yet, he still acted like that.”
“Yes. I was so angry after seeing the graffiti that I went to that house, but the crazy guy thrust a knife through the gap in the door. He said he’d kill me.”
“A knife?”
Lee Kang-ju’s eyes, which had held a gentle trace of laughter, narrowed slightly. Hae Jun continued speaking, failing to catch that change in expression.
“No, I mean, it’s just so absurd. He’s the one who did wrong, yet he said if I make a sound one more time, he’ll rip my stomach open.”
“He even threatened you.”
At the kind voice, Hae Jun gave a fairly brave snort. His spine had tingled when he saw the blade, but Hae Jun’s life had not been easy enough for him to simply remain scared.
While being tormented by loan sharks, he had frequently heard all kinds of curses, endured various assaults, and faced threats that they would pull out his organs and sell them. This level of threat was nothing.
“So for the time being…”
Hae Jun, who had been babbling like a bird, suddenly shut his mouth. It was difficult to tell the person who provided the house that he would be staying somewhere else for a while. Could it not be read as a sign of rejecting the other person’s favor?
Still, it was better to reveal the truth. After hesitating, Hae Jun opened his mouth.
“I decided to stay at a friend’s house. Actually, I’m on my way back from there today as well.”
“What kind of friend?”
“His name is Yohan, he’s my best friend. His place is a bit far, but if you contact me, I’ll come immediately.”
Hmm, Lee Kang-ju hummed as he tapped his chin with his index finger. He seemed lost in thought. His gaze did not move away from Hae Jun.
“Are there any more bags you need to pack from here?”
Lee Kang-ju asked abruptly. Hae Jun couldn’t grasp the meaning and asked back, “Pardon?”
“I think my house would be more comfortable than a friend’s house.”
“For me? I’m fine, though…”
“Not Cha Hae-jun, I mean it would be more comfortable for me.”
“For you, CEO?”
“Why? Do you hate the idea?”
Hae Jun blinked. He couldn’t immediately get a sense of what Lee Kang-ju wanted. Only after five seconds did he let out an exclamation of realization.
“Is it okay if I go to your house, CEO?”
“You said a crazy guy lives next door. You said you have to stay somewhere else anyway until that is handled.”
“That’s true, but…”
“Is there much difference between a friend’s house or my house? If we’re going to work, my house will be more convenient anyway.”
Hae Jun nodded his head without realizing it. He was more than halfway convinced. If he stayed at Lee Kang-ju’s house, his body would be comfortable since he wouldn’t need to travel. However, he didn’t know if his mind would be just as comfortable. Since Yohan was like family, he didn’t mind rubbing shoulders in a tiny room, but…
“What are you doing? Move it.”
Lee Kang-ju urged the hesitant Hae Jun. He could have refused if he wanted to, but he was also very curious about where Lee Kang-ju lived.
He didn’t know when this contract would end, so wouldn’t it be nice to take a look at least once before then? Hae Jun quickly folded his conflict. It was an opportunity that might never come again, and he didn’t want to miss it.
