The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 3.2
There were no signs indicating the region on the streets. It felt less like Earth and more like a separate location mimicking it. Ian had seen spaces like this a few times before.
A Demon’s Miniature Garden.
“Aaaagh!”
Just then, a human scream echoed from far away. Ian hesitated for a moment before turning his body toward the direction of the sound.
“Out of the way!”
Hong Seo-yun , who had pushed a wounded Tanker behind him, drew a line in the air. Immediately, a rain made of fire began to pour from the sky.
“Rain of Flames.”
Someone watched the scene and muttered blankly. It was one of the specialties of Hong Seo-yun, who was known as the Flame Emperor—a skill that bombarded a specific area with high-temperature flames.
Despite its destructive power, it was named “Rain of Flames” because of its beautiful appearance, but in reality, it possessed terrifying force. However, the monsters did not flee even as they wailed in pain. Instead, they gritted their teeth and crawled forward.
The place they had entered was a C-Rank Gate called the “Street of Lamentation.” It was an ideal spot for training guild members with some experience, but at some point, the rank had suddenly jumped.
B-Rank Gate: Street of Lamentation.
That was still manageable. The Guild Leader, Hong Seo-yun, was there because he had followed them just in case. The problem was that the rank of the Gate continued to rise after that.
A-Rank Gate: Street of Lamentation.
And finally, it became an S-Rank.
“Why is the rank jumping like this!”
Hong Seo-yun was an S-Rank Awakened, but the problem lay in the fact that the majority of the guild members, excluding a few, were low-ranked.
‘I can’t just abandon them and leave.’
A situation where there was only one S-Rank Awakened in an S-Rank Gate. That meant there was a limit to the number of people Hong Seo-yun could save, no matter how wildly he fought. Already, more than half were injured and had retreated from the front lines.
“A-Are we going to die?”
A new guild member in the back asked gloomily.
“Who’s dying?”
Hong Seo-yun, who managed to overhear, answered sharply. However, he was already injured as well. It was the result of overextending his power to deal with a massive monster moments ago. As a fire user, his attack power was strong, but his defense was weak.
He couldn’t receive treatment while holding back the monsters, and there was no one left to support him. They had brought healers along, but there were only two, and they were currently far too busy.
In such a situation, the monsters surged in endlessly. One of the healers, who had been working hard to treat the guild members, spoke up.
“Guild Leader.”
“What?”
“Please leave us and go.”
“What?”
“There’s no hope. At least the people who can live should survive.”
If there were no people to protect, Hong Seo-yun could survive. He wasn’t an S-Rank Awakened for nothing; he received that rank because he had the abilities to back it up. In this situation, they were nothing more than obstacles to him.
He had done enough. Hong Seo-yun had provided a great deal for them over the years. That was why the healer could find the courage to give up their own life. The problem, however, was that Hong Seo-yun had no intention of doing so.
“What kind of creative bullshit are you talking about? What happens if a Guild Leader abandons his members?”
“But!”
“Enough. Just keep treating the chicks.”
“…Yes.”
With that, Hong Seo-yun sent the remaining healer to the back as well. Now, he was the only one standing before the monsters.
“Well, whatever.”
It wasn’t that he didn’t have lingering attachments, but it had been a life without regrets. He had crawled up from the bottom and established a proper guild, after all.
“I should decorate the end brilliantly.”
For the sake of the guild members who had trusted and followed him. To increase their chances of survival even slightly, he stepped forward.
“Come at me.”
He said, beckoning the monsters with a flick of his finger.
Fire is beautiful, but dangerous. If it exceeds a certain limit, it burns even the person wielding it. Because of this, there were cases where Awakened who used fire ended up burning to death.
The fire, which had been a reddish hue, gradually began to turn blue. In contrast, Hong Seo-yun’s complexion grew pale. Yet, he laughed, curling his lips upward.
“You bastards.”
Hong Seo-yun raised his hand and pointed at the monsters. At that gesture, fire appeared in mid-air and grew in volume, using the monsters’ bodies as kindling. Even as the flames grew larger, the monsters still did not retreat.
No matter how much monsters were beings beyond human common sense, this was strange. And the source of that uncanny feeling revealed itself before long.
“What a fun firework display~!”
A type of monster never seen before appeared among the trembling, crawling monsters.
