The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 34.1
Ian’s heart began to pound riotously. It felt as though Choi Jae-heon was moving. Sensing this, Ian struck Vermouth’s chest with a heavy thud of his fist. It was a signal to stop. Vermouth wanted to ignore it, but he felt it was best to listen to him for now.
Vermouth pulled his lips away from Ian’s as if reluctant to let go.
A long, silver thread of saliva stretched between the two, leaving a lewd trace behind.
“Ha, ha.”
Ian exhaled rough breaths, his face flushed hot. His lips were swollen and his eyes were wet. To anyone watching, this was not the face of someone who had undergone ordinary treatment. It was filled with heat, like someone who had just finished an intimate act.
“…Are you crazy? Why did you put your hand in there!”
Ian protested in a tiny voice, as if letting out a silent scream, while swatting Vermouth’s hand away.
Vermouth licked his lips with his tongue and laughed languidly. The poison had not vanished completely, but it had certainly weakened.
“I did it because I thought touching as much as possible might help you heal.”
“Do not say such nonsense.”
“It is true. Why would I tell such a lie?”
“You always…! No, forget it. Is your body alright?”
“Yes, it feels much lighter. Sensation is returning to my arm as well.”
It was as he said. Warmth began to return to his pale face, and his eyes shone intensely. New flesh had not yet sprouted on his arm, but compared to the beginning, he was overflowing with vitality.
“It is a great shame, but I suppose we should stop here for today?”
Ian glared at Vermouth before climbing down from the bed. As he stepped onto the floor, his legs wobbled. It was due to the excessive release of Holy Power and the extreme tension.
It was right then.
Footsteps were heard from the living room. It seemed Choi Jae-heon, who had been sitting on the sofa, had stood up. The sound grew closer and closer until it stopped right in front of the door.
“Choi Ian.”
It was Choi Jae-heon’s voice. It sounded very close, separated only by the single door.
Ian held his breath.
“Are you sleeping?”
Suspicion was buried in his voice. There was no way an S-class hunter like him would miss the subtle rustle of clothing or the rough breathing coming from inside. Ian covered his mouth with his hands. It was difficult to even let out the sound of a breath. If he answered now, his voice would clearly tremble and give him away.
Vermouth lay slantwise on the bed, smiling as if enjoying himself while gesturing toward Ian’s disheveled clothing and reddened face. This situation itself seemed to be a form of amusement for him.
‘I want to punch him so hard.’
However, Ian could not translate his thoughts into reality.
Creak.
The doorknob turned slowly, very slowly.
Since he had not locked it, there was no way to stop it. A gap appeared, and the door began to open. The fluorescent light from the living room cut through the dark room like a sharp blade.
‘I’m doomed.’
Ian’s mind went blank.
This posture, this face, this atmosphere. The moment his brother saw him, everything would be over. Setting aside his brother’s anger, Ian was worried about what would happen next. Vermouth’s head would probably go flying.
There was nowhere to run. Ian, perched awkwardly atop Vermouth, was a rat in a trap. In that split second, Ian’s instincts sounded a loud alarm. He had to gloss over this situation and hide it somehow.
Ian pretended to lose his strength and collapsed onto Vermouth’s broad chest as if fainting. He then buried his reddened face in Vermouth’s bosom. It was the only way to hide his exploding cheeks and swollen lips.
At the same time, Vermouth’s hand moved swiftly. He pulled down the disheveled shirt behind Ian’s back and yanked up the crumpled blanket, covering their suggestive posture.
They were perfect accomplices, moving as if they were a single body.
Clack.
The door then swung wide open.
Choi Jae-heon stood in the doorway like a giant guardian statue, backlit by the light. His long, dark shadow fell over the two people on the bed. His sharp eyes scanned the scene. Ian was lying facedown with his face buried in Vermouth’s chest, and Vermouth was wrapping one arm around him.
“…Ian?”
Choi Jae-heon’s voice sank coldly. The silence of a storm’s eye hung in the room. A pressure that made it hard even to breathe dominated the space.
“What are you doing there?”
To an outsider, it was an embarrassing posture. It was natural for his brother, Choi Jae-heon, to ask such a question. However, Ian did not lift his head. No, he could not.
Ian kept his face buried in Vermouth’s chest and mumbled in a crawling voice.
“…Heart rate.”
“What?”
“The machine was acting strange, so I am checking it myself. I suddenly couldn’t hear the sound well.”
