The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 58.1
Ian put on his clothes with trembling hands. He was so distracted that he couldn’t even remember what he had pulled out to wear. Just until this evening, he had been in such a high mood. Now, that was no longer the case.
On the TV screen, the Stigma headquarters was already mostly devoured by the giant maw of the Gate. The sight of the red, swirling vortex swallowing the building looked as if a massive beast was roaring in the middle of the city. The outer walls of the building were grotesquely twisted, and smoke billowed out from beyond the windows.
“Brother.”
Choi Jae-heon is over there. The man who promised to remain as family to him is trapped in a hellish Gate. Thinking of the last time they met made Ian feel like he was suffocating. It felt as though his heart was being ripped apart.
Ian tried to dash out of the house immediately but stopped at the front door. The Stigma Guild was located in a busy district. It was the crack of dawn; how could he get there? Public transportation would have already stopped running.
‘No.’
Taxis should still be operating. However, Choi Jae-heon had bought up all the surrounding property, so there were no people around. He would have to walk quite a bit to catch a taxi. And even if there were a taxi, would the driver really be willing to go to such a dangerous site? When his thoughts reached that point, his mind went blank.
“Brother, Brother!”
As he stomped his feet in frustration, his phone began to ring.
[Yoon Tae-gyeom]
As soon as Ian saw the name appear on the screen, he pressed the call button.
“Brother!”
-Ian, where are you right now? Are you at home?
“Yeah, yeah! I’m at home. I just saw the news!”
-Then you must know everything. First, stay calm and listen to me. I’ve sent someone to your house. You know Yoon So-ra , right? My relative. She’s on her way to pick you up.
Ian ran out of the house feeling as though he had met a savior.
“Is my brother… Will he be safe?”
He’ll be safe. Coincidentally, Hong Seo-yun was there with him. There are two S-grade Awakeners together, so what could possibly happen? So, don’t worry too much.
Yoon Tae-gyeom calmed Ian down in a composed voice. Not long after that, Yoon So-ra arrived, and Ian threw himself into the back seat. Though the season where the night air gradually turns cold was approaching, his entire body was drenched in a cold sweat.
“It’s okay. Everything will be okay.”
Yoon So-ra said those words to Ian and stepped hard on the accelerator. Partway there, the roads became blocked by cars trying to escape the vicinity of the Gate, so they got out and ran. Fortunately, Yoon So-ra was also an Awakener, so she was able to move quickly against the crowd even while carrying Ian.
The area near the Stigma headquarters was already a scene of absolute chaos. The sounds of sirens and the screams of people mixed together, piercing the eardrums. Between the fleeing citizens, armed Management Bureau agents moved busily. Ian stepped down from Yoon So-ra’s arms and stared at the Gate, which was emitting a foul demonic energy.
‘Why did it have to be my brother?’
It would have been better if the Gate had opened where Ian was. Ian squeezed his eyes shut and then opened them. In the meantime, Yoon Tae-gyeom, who had rushed out, approached him.
“Ian.”
“Tae-gyeom.”
“A call has gone out to every guild in Seoul. So if you wait just a bit, the vanguard will go in.”
“I can’t wait.”
Yoon Tae-gyeom flinched at Ian’s words.
“If you can’t wait?”
“I’m going in first, even if I’m alone.”
“Ian.”
Yoon Tae-gyeom grabbed Ian’s shoulders with his hands.
“You… you’re a healer.”
“I can still use divine power, so I can deal with demons.”
“There must be a limit. You didn’t call yourself a healer for no reason.”
Ian found the calmly persuasive words resentful at this moment.
“So, calm down.”
“But no one knows what is happening inside! Demonic energy is leaking out this foully. No. I have to go in. I have to go in and find my brother!”
As Ian tried to move toward the Gate, Yoon Tae-gyeom firmly blocked his path. His face was distorted with worry.
“No. Like I said, the vanguard will be ready soon, so we move together. I absolutely cannot let you go before then.”
“What if something happens to my brother while waiting for those people?”
“Ian! Do you think I’m not worried about Jae-heon? But how can I just watch you head into a death trap! Jae-heon would try to kill me if he found out.”
No words could reach Ian right now. The stench of the demons he had seen in Lancia was vibrating all the way to this spot. This was no simple monster raid. It was a hunt targeting a specific individual.
