The Saint Wants to Rest - Chapter 59.1
Cutting down demons, and cutting them down again.
As they passed through each room, the air gradually turned heavy and damp, like a viscous liquid. The demonic energy seeping out incessantly from all directions was so dense and unpleasant that an ordinary Awakener would find it difficult to even stand there and breathe. It even gave the illusion of walking inside the stomach of a giant beast.
The demons grew stronger as they progressed, but before the Holy Sword held by Vermouth, they were merely annoying weeds blocking the path. Each time the blue trajectory flashed, the demons scattered into the air as piles of ash, unable to even let out a scream.
Ian held firmly onto the neck of the silently advancing Vermouth, pushing power into him without pause. Even though he was constantly consuming energy, the fact that Vermouth’s breathing remained undisrupted was thanks to the power Ian supplied.
“Lord Ian, we will arrive soon.”
Vermouth gave a short warning and slowed his pace.
“I know.”
Before long, a massive door was revealed ahead. The door, carved with the figures of wailing people, made one’s head spin just by looking at it. This was the final destination of this Gate.
“It is inside here. Shall we enter?”
“Of course we have to go in.”
They had walked for quite a while, yet they hadn’t seen a single human corpse. That meant everyone was inside. Perhaps they intended to take his brother hostage to kill Ian. Even so, he couldn’t back down here.
“Let’s go.”
Ian began to walk on his own feet at that point. Vermouth did not stop him from dirtying his feet, knowing that a full-scale battle was about to begin.
Vermouth extended his sword toward the final door.
Boom!
The heavy steel door flew inward as if screaming, making a terrible bursting sound. Beyond the cloud of white dust that rose up, Ian instinctively gasped at the scenery revealed inside.
Before his eyes was an endless graveyard. Parts of decayed corpses protruded from the rotting soil. Looking up, what appeared instead of a ceiling was a bizarrely swirling blood-colored cloud.
In such a place, the people belonging to Stigma were strewn about like puppets with their strings cut, devoid of vitality. And in the center of that hellscape stood a massive knight clad in silver armor and a black cloak.
Death Knight Kairam.
He was the knight of death who had brutally slaughtered numerous Holy Knights on the Lancia continent and had exchanged hundreds of blows with Vermouth in the past. The blue eye-light flashing behind the visor swept over the visitors.
However, Ian’s gaze was not on Kairam, but fixed on the familiar figure collapsed at his feet.
“Brother!”
A scream erupted from Ian’s mouth. The man lying there in a battered state was certainly Choi Jae-heon. His clothes, which had always been neat, were torn to shreds and soaked in blood, and Kairam’s massive demonic sword was buried deep in his back. That ominous sword pulsated as it greedily sucked out Choi Jae-heon’s life force.
“Brother! Brother…!”
At Ian’s voice, Choi Jae-heon barely managed to lift his blood-matted eyes. His entire body was already severely contaminated by Kairam’s demonic energy, and black veins bulged out like spiderwebs over his fair skin. Dark red blood flowed from the corners of his mouth each time he breathed.
“Ian…”
Choi Jae-heon groaned miserably, scratching the muddy floor with his mangled fingers.
To remain by Ian’s side as a proper family member as Ian had wanted, he had left the house on his own to hide the uncontrollable emotions and obsession boiling within him. But that meager act had ultimately resulted in calling his younger brother into this horrific death trap.
More than the pain of his flesh being torn, Choi Jae-heon felt a despair deeper than death at the fact that he had to see Ian crying out for him.
“Run away…”
A hoarse voice forced its way through his lips. Beside that disastrous figure, Hong Seo-yun stood precariously, squeezing out his remaining flame abilities to the limit. His flames, which always burned arrogantly, had already lost their blue light and were fading away.
“Hey, you crazy bastard. How the hell did you crawl in here?”
Hong Seo-yun spat out an oath he had never used toward Ian in his life.
“Get out, get out right now!”
Even while saying that, Hong Seo-yun was struggling to block the path between Kairam and Ian. But in Ian’s eyes, only their pain was vivid, rather than their devotion.
It was just as Ian was about to run forward, unable to hold back. A thick shadow in the corner of the hall wavered bizarrely, and Kim Min-cheol revealed his vile true form.
“You’ve finally arrived, our noble Saint.”
Kim Min-cheol smiled brightly, spreading his arms as if showing off this horrific space.
