Death Knight Kairam, caught in the light, let out a scream as he writhed in the agony of his flesh burning away. Once the supply of demonic energy was cut off within the perfectly purified space, the ominous pitch black aura surrounding him flickered precariously like a candle in the wind.

And there was no way Vermouth would miss that opening. A cruel smile spread across his lips.

“I suppose it is my turn now.”

With that chilling sentence, the Holy Sword held by Vermouth pierced through Kairam’s body.

“Begone.”

Kairam raised his sword to defend himself, but Vermouth even sliced through that.

“Ah, my Lord!”

With that final death cry, Kairam was engulfed in an explosive light. The armor melted away, and the decayed flesh scattered as ash. It was the moment the Death Knight, who had been so infamous in Lancia, was annihilated in a single blow. Witnessing that overwhelming sight, Kim Min-cheol turned pale and recoiled.

‘This wasn’t in the plan! Such a monster-like ability! This must be reported!’

The moment Kim Min-cheol hurriedly tried to throw himself past the collapsed wall of the headquarters, a massive barrier of flames blocked his path.

“Where do you think you’re going, you rat?”

Hong Seo-yun, who had perfectly recovered before anyone noticed, was smiling savagely while flicking a bright blue spark from his fingertip.

“You’re planning to just leave after making such a mess of someone else’s home?”

Technically it was his friend’s home, but what did it matter? What belongs to my friend belongs to me. Hong Seo-yun proceeded to incinerate Kim Min-cheol right then and there. The demon tried to resist by gathering demonic energy. However, since he wasn’t a particularly strong demon to begin with, he was caught in the vortex of flames Hong Seo-yun unleashed and turned into a black lump of charcoal.

Finally, everything was over.

“Ugh. I’m going to die.”

Hong Seo-yun slumped to the floor, breathing heavily. He then stood up and tapped the shoulder of his friend who had approached. However, Choi Jae-heon’s gaze was fixed on Ian, the person who had just performed a miracle.

“This doesn’t feel real.”

The moment Hong Seo-yun said those words, Ian slumped down. It was the result of using his abilities to the limit within a human body. It was also the price for forcibly stepping into the realm of the gods, a place no Saint of Lancia had ever reached.

“Ian!”

“Lord Ian!”

Vermouth, Choi Jae-heon, and Hong Seo-yun rushed to Ian in a panic.

“Ugh.”

A suppressed groan escaped Ian’s mouth. An intense pain, as if his body were burning up, surged through him, making it impossible to hold back his screams. His body, which had been glowing brilliantly just moments ago, began to convulse. His vision flickered red, and a piercing tinnitus disoriented his ears.

It felt like someone was calling his name, but at some point, he could no longer hear anything. Still, it was okay. The horrific wounds that had remained on his brother’s body had all disappeared, and Vermouth was safe as well.

‘What a relief. I protected them.’

That was the end of his consciousness. He had no way to overcome his eyelids as they slowly closed. His mouth was filled with the smell of blood, as if he had coughed some up. Even breathing was difficult. Yet, the reason he could smile was that he had protected the people he loved by his own will.

‘But, even so.’

‘I still want to live a little longer.’

And so, Ian lost consciousness.

“The world is ending, truly ending.”

A middle aged man eating at a restaurant while watching the TV blurted out. Last night, another spontaneous gate opened in Seoul. In the past, there would be a notice before a Gate opened, but now, there was no such thing.

“Isn’t that because of that ‘demonic energy’ or whatever? Because of those demons?”

“I guess? Anyway, if things keep going like this, shouldn’t we consider emigrating?”

“Tell me about it. It’s only our country that’s in this mess. They say they open in other countries too, but not to this extent.”

Someone listening to the worried voices let out a sigh. It was Yoon So-ra, who had come to eat after barely finding time while working overtime due to the Gate incident.

Thinking about how hard the Awakeners were working to protect the country. What selfish remarks. She almost flared up and intervened.

‘I don’t even have an appetite, did I come here for nothing?’

Yoon So-ra sighed again as she looked at the soup and rice that had arrived late. Most of the people from the Stigma Guild survived. Though some died because they couldn’t endure the process of the Gate’s creation, things were relatively good. However, there was a point of regret. If the vanguard had entered even a little faster, wouldn’t fewer people have died?

‘No.’

It was thanks to the Management Bureau that guilds, which don’t even cooperate properly, were unified and sent in like that. More precisely, it was thanks to Yoon Tae-gyeom. Her cousin.
