“Ah, get back! You’re suffocating me!”

Ian recoiled, repulsed by the body odor of the two men wafting toward him. Seeing faces that would normally be handsome pushed right up against him, ruined by stubble and dark circles, was a mix of happiness and overwhelming pressure.

“Ian, are you really okay? Do you feel any pain? Do you recognize your brother?”

“Lord Ian, can you hear my voice? Can you move your fingers?”

In the moment Choi Jae-heon and Vermouth were making a fuss while each grabbing one of Ian’s arms, doctors and nurses rushed into the hospital room after hearing the urgent emergency call.

A flurry of examinations—pulse, blood pressure, pupil response—swept through. After checking the results, the doctor adjusted his glasses, looking back and forth between the chart and Ian as if he couldn’t believe it.

“It is nothing short of a miracle. Considering the condition you were in when you were brought in a few days ago, it is marvelous that you have even opened your eyes. All vital signs are normal. However.”

As the doctor trailed off, the two men on either side emitted a savage, murderous aura like wild beasts.

“However, what? Speak clearly.”

“Is there a problem with Ian’s body?”

“N-no! It’s not a major problem, but…”

Wiping away cold sweat, the doctor continued.

“The core within the body, which is the source of his abilities, is completely empty. It appears to be a temporary symptom, but for the time being, you will not be able to use your abilities. Since you are currently in a weaker state than an ordinary person, you must take absolute rest for a while.”

At that moment, a strange silence hung over the hospital room. Despite the thunderclap-like announcement that he couldn’t use his divine power, faces belonging to Choi Jae-heon and Vermouth were filled with relief—no, even a strange glow.

‘What’s with those reactions?’

While Ian was bewildered, the doctor left the room. And from that day, the two men’s suffocating ‘Absolute Rest Project’ for Ian began its run.

“Now, say ah.”

“…Hyung. My hands are fine. My senses have all returned.”

“Ian. What did the doctor say? Absolute rest! He said your core is empty and you’re weaker than a normal person right now, didn’t he? Spoons are heavy, so stop talking and just open your mouth.”

Ian blinked his eyes as if he found it absurd. No matter how low his stamina was, there was no way a spoon would be heavy.

However, there was no way to beat his brother, who was blowing on the porridge with a face that looked ready to cry at any moment, dark circles hanging deep under his eyes. When Ian reluctantly opened his mouth, Choi Jae-heon wore a satisfied smile as if he owned the world and carefully pushed in the porridge, which was at a perfect temperature.

The problem wasn’t just Choi Jae-heon.

“Lord Ian, is the porridge to your taste? If even the act of chewing puts a strain on your jaw joint, I could chew it finely for you and pass it over…”

“Forget it! I swallowed it just fine! Don’t say such horrifying things!”

When Vermouth, standing like a statue on the other side of the bed, made a mad suggestion with a serious face, Ian waved his hand in horror. Usually, he would have brushed it off as a joke, but right now, that gaze was sincere. It seemed like Vermouth was ready to pass over food he had chewed himself the moment Ian gave permission.

Whenever he tried to go to the bathroom, Vermouth would approach and pick him up in a princess carry as naturally as breathing, and when he tried to drink water, Choi Jae-heon would quickly hand him a straw. Because of this extreme overprotection that didn’t even allow him to cross the threshold of the room, Ian felt like closing his eyes again.

“Ah, I’m seriously bored to death! Give me my phone. I haven’t seen anything for days.”

At Ian’s demand, Choi Jae-heon shook his head firmly.

“No. The blue light from the screen can stimulate the optic nerve and cause fatigue in the brain.”

“Hyung, please. I really feel like my head is going to explode from boredom. Just ten minutes!”

When Ian whined with a pitiful expression, Choi Jae-heon’s iron wall finally collapsed. He reluctantly took Ian’s smartphone out of the drawer and gave him a warning.

“Only ten minutes. You have to put it down immediately if it gets tiring.”

“I got it, I got it.”

Ian pressed the power button, moved by the device of civilization he was touching for the first time in a while. A waterfall of accumulated message notifications poured down. Most were wellness messages sent by Yoon Tae-gyeom and Hong Seo-yun.

Ian left a rough reply and opened a portal site app. This was because he was curious about how the outside world was turning after being trapped in a hospital room.

However, as soon as the screen loaded, he saw real-time search rankings that made him doubt his eyes.

“…Huh?”

A stupid sound leaked out of Ian’s mouth. The state of the search terms was unusual. As he carefully clicked on the number one search term, ‘#National_Deception_Drama’, with trembling fingers, countless articles and social media posts burst forth.
