The Terminally Ill Hero’s Husband is the Demon King - Chapter 3.6
Rassel already knew in his head that Gillian was in a condition where it would not be strange for him to die at any time. He was currently the human bearing the greatest number of curses on the continent.
Even so, Rassel was deeply shaken. Gillian did not have long to live? This was the first time he had heard such a thing since learning of Gillian. Gillian did not seem to be joking or lying. This had not been part of Rassel’s plan.
“If you’re going to die anyway, then I’ll feed from you until the day you die. It’s been so long since I found prey this delicious that I don’t want to waste a single drop. I can find other prey later.”
That was all Rassel managed to say. Gillian let out a small laugh.
“Now there’s someone who’ll grieve when I die. Though you aren’t human. It feels nice.”
What in the world was this man saying? How could that feel nice?
“I’ve always wondered what I’ll think about when I die. I still can’t imagine it. I’ll probably have regrets. Or perhaps my breathing will stop before I can think of anything at all, without me even realizing it. But since you say you’ll stay with me until I die, I find myself hoping your face will come to mind when that moment arrives. I hope you’ll hold me and smile at me. Then, once I’m dead, you should forget me quickly.”
Rassel felt as though his heart were being crushed out of shape.
Everything Gillian said today was something Rassel had never heard before. Rassel instinctively knew that this was Gillian’s true feelings and everything Gillian had wanted from him. Rassel did not know what to say.
“Rassel.”
Gillian called him in a rather intimate tone.
“Y-Yes?”
“Does kissing feel good for an incubus too?”
“There’s nothing bad about it.”
“I’m asking because I’m curious whether you can take vital essence through a kiss.”
Even Rassel did not know the answer. He gave a vague response.
“Perhaps, if you love and desire me.”
Gillian lightly kissed Rassel. Rassel played along until Gillian was satisfied. When he gave Gillian the sweet, lingering kisses lovers shared, Gillian’s eyes grew hazy.
“What about now? Is it enough for you to take some vital essence?”
“Not really. Even if I gain nothing from it, I’ll kiss you plenty, so do not worry. I know you like this.”
Gillian closed his eyes. He could not be certain, but the incubus he had met seemed to be a kind and softhearted one. A pleasant wave of exhaustion washed over him. Gillian instinctively felt the incubus leaving his consciousness.
“Let us meet again.”
The last thing Gillian felt was the incubus’s tongue licking his lips, and then he lost consciousness.
Gillian slept more happily than he had in years. When he awoke, he was surprised by how light and refreshed his body felt. He stared at the ceiling for a while, then straightened the bedding, put on his outer clothes, and gathered his sword and bag.
Throughout all of it, a single thought filled Gillian’s mind. The incubus had said that Gillian would not remember, and Gillian had believed him.
Sometimes in life, one had dreams of unexpectedly sleeping with someone one knew. Why did I dream of something like that? Such dreams left behind only that question, then vanished without a trace unless one wrote them down or deliberately recalled them.
Gillian had assumed that the night he spent with the incubus would remain that faintly before disappearing. However, he remembered everything. Every last detail remained in his mind.
‘He lied! You fool. You should have known better than to believe him before thinking of resenting him.’
Gillian reproached himself. Even if the incubus had told him the truth, he would not have been able to refuse it. He was starved for another person’s warmth. He only felt hurt because the person with whom he had shared his body had lied about something so trivial and made it impossible for him to trust him.
