Leslun was confused.

He recalled the conversation he had with Blue not long ago.

When Blue told him that he was his fated partner, it felt burdensome, but not entirely shocking. He had even wondered if, since Blue was a spiritual being, his soul might have been influenced by memories from his previous life.

Blue had told Leslun that if he tried, he could change his own destiny. He had also explained what he needed to do to make that happen.

But now, Silber was saying something completely opposite.

“It might not be me.”

At Leslun’s uneasy words, Silber tilted his head, his sharp eyes gleaming.

[Are you doubting me?]

“That doesn’t make sense. Why would I ever put Your Highness in danger…”

He couldn’t finish his sentence. Because even he had doubts that couldn’t be denied.

[Then test it for yourself.]

Silber’s pupils turned pitch-black, as if they could pierce straight through to the truth within Leslun’s heart.

…Now that he thought about it, what exactly was Silber’s ability again?

Leslun swallowed dryly, his head hazy.

[Ask him to give you everything.]

You’ll know what happens next once you see it.

[If I’m right, come with me to the kingdom.]

There was amusement in Silber’s voice.

The strength drained from Leslun’s hand. The book slipped and fell, the sound echoing loudly through the empty corridor.

The leader of the Shadow Unit, who had been secretly eavesdropping, began to move toward the opposite end of the hallway.

“So, you’ve found the key to achieving your goal.”

He smirked, quietly waiting for the right moment.

Kailos flipped through the documents on his desk carelessly.

Each time the papers scattered, Robin neatly stacked them back into place. Though it seemed like Kailos wasn’t really reading, Robin knew his eyes didn’t miss a single line.

“It’s always amazing how you can still read everything even like that,” Robin said in a tone of admiration.

“You can do it too, if you try.”

Kailos replied indifferently, his voice calm and unbothered from years of disciplined training since childhood.

Taking the opportunity to start a conversation, Robin carefully asked, “What should we do about the rumors regarding Lady Miroi?”

“That?”

Kailos’s hand stopped. It seemed he was genuinely interested this time.

However, the face that surfaced in his mind wasn’t Miroi’s but Leslun’s — and the strange expression he’d had that day.

If it were jealousy, that would be nice. But if it wasn’t…

“Why hasn’t Lady Miroi denied that the rumors are false?”

There was clear displeasure in his voice.

Because of that, the rumors tying the two of them together had spread wildly through high society. Even talk of their engagement, which had begun to fade, resurfaced once again.

Robin knew well how heated things had become, but silently placed the next document for approval.

“It’s probably out of consideration.”

“Consideration? Leaving a rumor that poisons her own name out of concern for Leslun?”

Kailos tilted his head slightly, clearly not understanding.

“I think she’s showing consideration for you, actually,” he said, looking directly at Robin.

Robin’s hand froze for a brief second, but he didn’t say a word.

Kailos narrowed his eyes. Neither of them pleased him.

“That night. Nothing unusual happened at the academy?”

“I simply conducted a thorough investigation,” Robin answered smoothly, feigning innocence.

Bang.

Kailos slammed his pen onto the desk.

“Aide, you dare lie to me.”

It sounded like an excuse to put off work, but in truth, he had already finished signing the last document.

“If you say so, then I suppose that’s how it is.”

Cutting the conversation short, Kailos pushed back his chair and stood.

His steps instinctively carried him toward the window.

Beyond the large window stood the academy building. Thinking of Leslun, who must be attending class there, a faint smile softened his stern face.

“But remember this. If these rumors aren’t put to rest, Lady Miroi will find herself in serious trouble.”

His voice was low and edged as he stared outside.

“You were the one who suggested I marry her to gain the Duke’s family as political backing. It seemed like a good idea once, but not anymore.”

Kailos’s gaze stayed fixed beyond the glass.

Robin said nothing, silently gathering the signed documents.

“That method no longer appeals to me. By the way, how long until classes end?”

“There’s still quite a while,” Robin answered curtly, purposely avoiding giving an exact time out of mild defiance.

Even when Kailos shot him a glare, Robin quietly finished tidying the papers, bowed politely, and left the room without another word.
