The Villain’s Aide Has Run Away - Chapter 111.2
Leslun shook his head violently, as if to shake off the face that had suddenly come to mind.
Right now, he was running away from the Crown Prince.
“This is the right thing to do.”
Leslun deliberately spoke the words aloud.
“I cannot just let him become the villain by fate.”
If that happened, everyone would end up unhappy.
It was different from when he had tried to escape from Count Camilo.
The Count had been a villain. He had ordered evil deeds, and so Leslun could turn his back without hesitation. There had been no regret.
But Kailos was…
Leslun’s steps grew heavier.
He wanted to defiantly change Kailos’s fate. He expected he could do it with his own hands.
He did not want to witness the tragedy from the original story, where Kailos was pulled from the throne and left isolated in the palace to meet a miserable end.
Now, Leslun wished for the happiness of the one person in this world, Kailos. Even if it meant betraying the Empire, it did not matter.
He thought only of Kailos.
“I hope he is happy.”
The whisper, carried like the wind, scattered into the void.
“I hope he is not alone.”
He hoped that Advisor Robin would live long and continue to stay by Kailos’s side.
“I hope he keeps smiling.”
And when he finally grasped the happiness he wanted, Leslun hoped he could see that smile once more.
He simply wished that Kailos could live a life of laughter. And at the end…
“I hope I can be by his side.”
Could he become his advisor again? If Kailos was gentle, perhaps he would be given another chance.
Leslun’s steps stopped.
The moment he admitted his feelings, he could not move his feet.
Looking back across the mountain path, it felt as if Kailos was standing at the very end.
[You have to move.]
The hawk, wings still, settled on a branch.
“Was there no way to be happy without leaving him?”
Leslun whispered softly. The hawk slowly shook its head.
[To escape fate, one needs determination.]
It was an answer both simple and difficult.
“Yes, that is true.”
He had to have the resolve to let go of him if he wanted to break the pattern.
The priority was for the one person he cherished to survive. That was the key.
“Let’s go.”
His shoulders sagged as he turned wearily. After walking for over half a day, his steps were exhausted, but he could not stop yet.
Then it happened.
Silber suddenly flapped his wings widely and soared into the sky.
[They are chasing.]
Leslun looked up in surprise.
[They are fast.]
“Leslun!”
The shout struck his ears like a blade of cold wind.
The sound of pursuing hooves tore through the silence of the mountain.
***
Late in the afternoon, the Empress passed through layers of walls and entered the most secluded area.
“Welcome.”
Waiting in the safest place, the Emperor greeted the Empress. She sat across from him with practiced ease.
“Shall we have a drink after such a long time?”
“Yes.”
At her answer, shadows flickered, and attendants and maids moved silently. The Empress, still in her seated position, noticed a maid’s sleeve.
“The button has come undone.”
The maid, surprised that the Empress spoke, hurriedly adjusted her sleeve.
“I apologize.”
After the maid stepped back, the Emperor’s gaze followed her.
The Empress calmly lifted the cup before her.
“Did you know that the Crown Prince has left the palace?”
Mentioning Kailos brought a trace of displeasure to the Emperor’s face.
“Even if he leaves without permission, it does not take away the status of the Crown Prince.”
The title of Crown Prince was like the clothes Kailos wore. While those clothes pressed down on him, they also offered protection.
“If the Empress takes action, I will pretend not to know.”
It was a cruel statement for a parent to make about his own son.
Since Cassian’s birth, the Emperor had been consistently this way. The Empress suppressed her urge to mock his hypocritical attitude.
She lowered her eyes, pretending ignorance of his inner thoughts.
“Is there anything a bit sweeter?”
“Hm?”
“For example, like the night when Cassian was born.”
At the Empress’s subtle words, the Emperor quietly observed her.
The sharp gleam in his eyes softened, and he gazed at her with a hint of lechery. The once commanding face of the Empire’s ruler had almost faded. And with it, something else was fading as well.
The Emperor waved his hand.
“Go bring the drink the Empress requested.”
Once again, a shadow seemed to flicker and fall away.
The Empress’s long lashes shielded her eyes, concealing her sharp intent.
