The Villain’s Aide Has Run Away - Chapter 134.1
Leslun watched the scene unfold from the very back.
Kailos charged forward with his sword in hand, and the men in black cloaks moved to block him in perfect unison. They moved as one body, showing not a trace of hesitation.
They were men who did not fear death. Their blind faith erupted, and the battle broke out.
Leslun fixed his gaze on everything before him as if carving it into his mind. His eyes stayed cold, calculating the situation, but his heart pounded violently with fear.
“Please be safe…”
Even as his fingertips trembled with anxiety, his eyes never left the Crown Prince.
Blades clashed, sparks flying through the air. A sorcerer waved his hand, and with a terrible tearing sound, a knight collapsed as his armor split open.
“Fools who think brute strength can solve everything,” the sorcerer sneered.
Kailos stood before him, beside the fallen knight, and muttered quietly as he looked down at the man.
“The world cannot be solved by a sword alone.”
Kailos drove his own sword into the ground and picked up the fallen knight’s blade.
“But belittling the lives of those who devoted everything to their blades is something I will not tolerate. And…”
The blade flashed through the air. Black energy streamed from the sorcerer’s sleeve, but Kailos cut straight through it, striking with full force. Even as the sorcerer’s severed head rolled across the floor, not the slightest flicker wavered in Kailos’s eyes.
“Relying on one cheap trick is no different,” Kailos muttered as he flicked the blood from his sword.
If he avoided their strange attacks, untrained sorcerers were simple prey. He had already fought Brian once, so this was not difficult.
But the others would not be as easy. He could not afford to let his guard down.
“I need to end this quickly,” he murmured. If Leslun’s worry dragged on, his own heart would not be at ease either.
Kailos raised his sword once more.
The sorcerers moved again as one, surrounding him, but the Crown Prince pressed deeper into their formation. One sorcerer struck by his blade crashed against the wall, spitting blood.
The remaining ones lifted their hands in unison. A low whisper crawled into their ears. Several knights at the front suddenly twisted their faces and turned their swords on their own comrades.
“Cover your ears!”
Robin’s shout cracked through the chaos like lightning. Even as he deflected blades aimed at the Crown Prince, he subdued the maddened knights in an instant.
The chamber grew suffocatingly dark. Each time a torch flickered, shadows stretched long across the stone. The sorcerers moved within those shadows, and the knights’ swords often cut only empty air.
But Kailos’s sword never missed. His focus never wavered. Wherever the tip of his blade landed, blood splattered.
Leslun held his breath and watched him.
His heart pounded wildly, yet his eyes caught sight of something drawn at the edge of the battlefield—a sigil on the ground.
The spell circle was incomplete. Someone was still tracing lines on the floor amid the chaos of battle.
“That has to be stopped.”
Leslun’s lips pressed together tightly. If he rushed in, he would surely be cut down or captured. But if the spell circle was completed without anyone noticing, an irreversible disaster would descend upon them.
Then his eyes fell upon a sword lying on the floor. It was Kailos’s.
Leslun picked it up and moved along the wall, his presence easily hidden by the noise of battle and the screams around him.
Just as the sorcerer preparing the final line reached out his hand to complete the spell, Leslun leapt forward.
Thud!
Kailos’s sword pierced deep into the stone floor. The final line snapped, and the spell circle convulsed. The entire cavern trembled at once.
A sinister light spread for a brief moment before scattering like ash in the air. The unfinished power dissolved into nothingness.
“Damn you! I’ll kill you!”
The sorcerer screamed in rage and lunged at Leslun. Leslun instinctively gripped the sword, but it was wedged deep into the ground and would not move.
Trying to block a mad sorcerer with his body was suicidal, yet Leslun glared at his opponent head-on.
Just as the sorcerer’s shadow was about to engulf him, a powerful gust of wind cut between them.
Kailos’s sword pierced through the sorcerer’s neck.
“Kh—!”
Leslun could barely breathe as he watched the sorcerer’s body collapse. Kailos pulled his blade from the ground.
“Leslun… that was dangerous,” he said quietly.
Kailos stepped in front of him, shielding Leslun from the blood that splattered. His voice carried a deep, unmistakable relief.
