The Villain’s Aide Has Run Away - Chapter 58.1
“……”
“What I did in holding you. What you did in being held by me.”
Leslun lowered his gaze. But he could not avoid it.
He would say that such a thing would not happen again. After all, he would not embrace the same person twice.
What was already done could not be helped, but if his position as aide were to be excluded because of it, that would be disastrous.
Had he been able to distance himself from Kailos from the beginning, it might have been different. But Count Camilo could appear at any time. Moreover, he had not yet passed on any information to him, nor had he seen his family.
At the very least, the position of aide was the last line he had to defend to the utmost.
“It was an accident.”
His voice was quiet, but firm.
“It did not happen by my will.”
Kailos was momentarily at a loss for words. The air in the room fell into a stillness, as if time itself had paused.
A shadow briefly flickered in Kailos’s eyes as he silently looked at him.
“It must be easier for you to arrange it that way.”
“Because that is the truth.”
Kailos let out a light breath and turned his head. He was smiling, but the warmth within had already cooled.
“You mean to go back to the time when nothing had happened between us.”
“That is correct.”
Leslun bowed his head.
The bond between himself and the Crown Prince was destined to end. To give this relationship any great meaning would be pointless. It was better to think of it as nothing more than a single night that passed fleetingly.
“But what am I to do?”
Kailos’s voice was low, but the emotion he had kept hidden slipped out, asserting itself.
“I cannot do that.”
Kailos lifted Leslun’s chin. His thumb brushed over the smooth skin there.
“Admit what happened yesterday. Otherwise, I will carve it into your body again.”
His words sounded like a threat, yet beneath them was mixed Kailos’s sense of grievance.
Leslun looked up at him with confused eyes. He could not understand it at all.
Shouldn’t Kailos be the one to let go of him first? Yet now, he was speaking as though he meant to continue their connection even from this point forward.
Seeing the undisguised regret in the Crown Prince’s eyes, Leslun reflexively lowered his gaze, flustered.
He could think later on about why Kailos was saying such things to him. For now, he believed he must cut off the course of this relationship.
“Even so, I cannot acknowledge it.”
Leslun bowed his head. In his eyes, fixed on the floor, lay an unyielding resolve.
He must not collapse any further. And it was stubbornness he wielded to remind himself of who he was.
Kailos’s gaze struck down coldly. The air in the room sank, tension spreading through it.
“Do not regret it.”
A cruel smile curled at Kailos’s lips.
Yet within it were mingled faint wounds, anger, and disappointment. Though his mouth smiled, his eyes did not.
“I gave you the chance, and you pushed it away.”
Kailos’s hand fell slowly, as though cutting through the air. The space between them was close enough to touch if they reached out, but in that moment it felt so far that they could not even see one another’s faces.
A silence that seemed ready to shatter with a single word filled the space between them.
As Leslun was just about to raise his head, thinking it could no longer be turned back—
Kailos, as if he had been waiting, pulled him in and pressed his lips to his. Startled, Leslun’s mouth parted as he pushed against Kailos’s shoulder.
Though it was a kiss they had shared countless times before, at this moment it felt sharp enough to leave him reeling. When Kailos finally released him, Leslun covered his lips with the back of his hand and looked up at him.
“Our bodies matched well enough. I would rather you willingly take my hand, but since you say that is too difficult, then it cannot be helped.”
“What are you—… ugh.”
Suddenly, heat welled up inside his abdomen. Leslun’s eyes trembled wildly, not understanding what was happening.
“Did you think the arousal in your body would subside so quickly?”
Kailos let out a leisurely laugh and wrapped his arm around Leslun’s waist.
“It may be better than before, but your body is still heated.”
Finding Leslun’s flustered expression endearing, Kailos followed his impulse and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
