“Leslun.”

Leslun looked at Kailos’s hand extended toward him. It was a hand reaching only for him.

After a brief hesitation, Leslun carefully took it. The broken glass, the chamberlain, the fear—none of it mattered anymore.

When Leslun tried to look outside, Kailos caught his shoulder and turned him back.

“Look at me. I need to see if you’re alright.”

“I’m fine.”

“Fine? You’re injured.”

Kailos’s thumb brushed across Leslun’s cheek. Only then did he feel a faint sting.

It must have been a cut from when the window shattered. The way Kailos’s eyes fixed on the wound felt sharp and cold like an ice pick.

“How did you find out?” Leslun asked quickly, changing the subject.

He had been incredibly lucky this time. He was alive only because the Crown Prince had come.

He couldn’t help but wonder how Kailos had known.

“I told you earlier, didn’t I?” Kailos murmured. “I said I wanted to come greet you.”

Even as he said that, his gaze shifted to Leslun’s shoulder. He brushed off the remaining glass fragments but continued to stare at the spot for a long moment, as if hesitating about something.

“Were you worried?” Leslun asked.

“Yes. I had a strange feeling. I felt like I had to see you right away. Turns out, I was right.”

Leslun’s eyes wavered faintly. He asked again, this time more directly.

“Were you worried I might change my mind?”

There was a short silence. This time, Kailos didn’t answer.

The tension in his lips and jaw told Leslun enough.

As he thought, the silence itself was the answer. Leslun gave a faint smile.

“I only wanted to take some time to think seriously while I was alone.”

Kailos’s fingertips stiffened slightly.

His expression seemed calm, but a subtle tension slid down Leslun’s shoulders.

“But I didn’t have the chance. I had to attend the group meeting, and being with Lady Miroi… I couldn’t think about much else.”

Kailos frowned slightly.

“Should I be glad you didn’t think of me, or should I call that unfortunate? And what is this meeting?”

“It’s where we discuss a topic—something like… romance—”

He couldn’t bring himself to finish with the influence of emotions on official duty.

“But shouldn’t we help Robin?”

Leslun turned his head toward the window, pretending to look outside to avoid Kailos’s gaze. Yet Kailos’s eyes seemed to follow him even more intently.

Robin had taken down everyone except the chamberlain. The man instinctively drew a dagger from his belt, but the sword’s tip was already pressed against his throat.

The air was icy.

“You’d best stay still,” Robin warned, expressionless.

Not a drop of blood had been spilled yet, but if the chamberlain moved even slightly, Robin looked ready to strike.

The chamberlain froze, his hand trembling violently before the dagger slipped and clattered to the ground.

Just as the situation seemed settled, the ground trembled with approaching footsteps. New figures appeared.

“Seize them all!”

A booming voice rang out as cavalry in crimson-marked uniforms surrounded the carriage.

They were knights of House Delta.

“My apologies for the delay, Your Highness.”

The knight at the front approached the carriage door, kneeling and bowing his head. Kailos did not turn around as he gave a single order.

“I will interrogate that man myself. Lock him in the palace prison.”

“As you command.”

Several knights stepped forward toward the chamberlain. Robin sheathed his sword and pushed the man’s shoulder, sending him collapsing to the floor completely drained of strength.

Then, a calm, composed woman’s voice came from behind.

“It seems things turned out louder than expected.”

She walked forward through the knights and stopped before the carriage. Despite the blood, dust, and shattered debris scattered around, she didn’t seem surprised or unsettled in the slightest.

Everyone turned their heads toward her. It was Lady Miroi.

“So many things keep happening today.”

Her gaze moved first to Kailos, then to Robin.

“Thanks to that, I might get my answer sooner than I thought.”

Finally, her eyes rested on Leslun.
