Transmigrated as the Side Top used as an Emotional Trash Can - Chapter 2.2
There was something strange about the zombies too.
Their bodies weren’t intact. Starting at some boundary point, parts of their forms had vanished as if they had been cleanly sliced off.
Acting on a strange hunch, I picked up a random piece of stone and walked while drawing a long line across the asphalt at the points where the strange zombies appeared.
Then, when I climbed onto a rooftop and looked down at the shape, I saw that it formed a single circle.
“Only a certain area around me has turned into a zombie apocalypse….”
I muttered as I looked down at the perfect circle drawn around my corpse.
It seemed there were no time restrictions in this frozen world. Although I felt as if I had spent quite a while there, no warning windows appeared.
“Does it want me to prepare for the next round?”
Carefully thinking everything through, I returned to the original karaoke room and planned a route.
“Huff, haa….”
Limping, I violently threw open the door to Kim Jihwan’s room.
Kim Jihwan looked up at me with wide, startled rabbit eyes, his blanket pulled over his head. He was probably terrified because I had approached him and caused the world outside to turn into a zombie apocalypse.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t get here sooner.”
“…What?”
“I died every time I took the elevator, so I had to come up the stairs….”
Kim Jihwan flinched as if he had no idea what I was talking about, and I saw his gaze fall upon the bloodstained Phillips screwdriver in my hand. Realizing my mistake, I threw it far away. Then I rushed straight toward Kim Jihwan and pulled him into my arms.
“You were scared, weren’t you? It’s okay now. I’m here.”
I didn’t know whether it really would be okay. But I had come here just as I had been told, so couldn’t everything finally be all right now?
I leaned against Kim Jihwan and gently stroked his still-stiff back.
“I think I’m a little tired….”
The strength drained from my legs. Unable to support my weight, Kim Jihwan fell backward onto the bed. As I held him in my arms while he stayed still, perhaps trying to understand the situation, I suddenly felt overwhelmed with sorrow.
“Hehe, I’m so happy to see you…. Hiic….”
Once the tension left me, tears and snot began flowing on their own.
The original Baek Hanrim had cried as easily as a leaky faucet too. Was this his influence? Even though I had rarely cried as a child and had earned the nickname Saint Baek, the tears poured out uncontrollably.
“I’m sorry…. Hiic, I didn’t pay enough attention to you, waaah…. I didn’t love you enough…. Waaaaah….”
I hugged Kim Jihwan’s slender body and let out animal-like sobs. As I poured out my emotions so desperately, Kim Jihwan wrapped his arms around me in return and gradually began to sniffle.
“Don’t leave me alone….”
“Okay, I’m sorryyy…. Waaah….”
“Don’t get too close to the other kids….”
“Okay, okay. I won’t….”
The zombies cried outside, and we cried inside. In the world that had fallen into complete chaos, we had become the only humans left. But I wasn’t particularly worried about what lay ahead.
Because I wouldn’t be lonely as long as I was with Kim Jihwan.
The Affection Level has been restored to above 10%.
Affection Level 12%
A penalty will be imposed.
The last thing I saw was several windows popping up in rapid succession, and then I drifted into unconsciousness.
When I opened my eyes, I was sitting in an elementary school classroom.
Kim Jihwan was seated in front of me, and science class was in full swing.
I was so startled that I wanted to leap noisily to my feet, grab Kim Jihwan, and cause a commotion right then and there.
But after my long experience with the zombie outbreak, I instinctively clenched my teeth, carefully assessed my surroundings, and rapidly worked through the situation in my head. Cold sweat seeped from my hand and thoroughly soaked the note I was holding.
Come to think of it, what was this note…?
-Subin
Subin was the name of my third girlfriend in elementary school.
I silently lifted the front cover of my textbook to check it.
A sixth-grade textbook. I was wearing long sleeves. Outside the window, the roadside trees were tinged with autumn colors and swaying across the city.
‘A penalty will be imposed.’
I recalled one of the system windows that had flown into view.
What was the penalty?
I blinked and wiggled all ten fingers and all ten toes. The penalty didn’t seem to involve physical mutilation. Had I simply become younger?
“It said the Affection Level was 12 percent earlier….”
I quietly muttered to myself.
When the Affection Level dropped below 10 percent, zombies appeared. I only had a 2 percent margin. My current situation was extremely dangerous.
Rustle-.
I quietly slipped the note Subin had given me into my desk drawer. Receiving a confession wouldn’t instantly lower the Affection Level, but staying away from Kim Jihwan for that much longer would still put me at a disadvantage. As I put the note away, my hand caught on a carelessly crumpled notice in the drawer, so I pulled it out.
“Preferred Middle School Assignment Form….”
It was the middle school I had mindlessly written down because my friends were applying there.
I erased it and wrote down a different school with desperate determination.
I needed to attend the same middle school as Kim Jihwan.
