After the attack on Kim Jihwan’s gym uniform, time continued passing without any further incidents, and summer began in earnest.
By then, every student in the school was wearing the summer uniform. The major event known as final exams swept through the entire school. Some students studied tensely, while others lazed around, merely happy that classes ended early, filling the school with restless energy. Kim Jihwan seemed a little nervous because he wanted to receive good grades on the final exams he had seriously prepared for after beginning to study properly.
“They said there’s no lunch today because the cafeteria workers are on strike.”
On the final day of exams, the sky had been cloudy since morning before finally pouring rain. Since English was the last exam, Kim Jihwan kept muttering vocabulary words under his breath and writing down the ones he had memorized without even looking in my direction.
“The exams are over, so let’s eat something good.”
Kim Jihwan moved his head slightly as though telling me to get lost, then continued glaring at the sentences in his textbook and the grammar notes he had written. I didn’t want to disturb him any further, so I placed a small piece of candy on his desk, told him to do well on the exam, and left the classroom.
As I walked down the hallway, I saw Jihyeok-hyung from the Swimming Club drinking water at the sink. Since students from different grades were mixed together for exams, I could run into him like this.
“Hyung! Good luck on your exam!”
I called Jihyeok-hyung from behind, slipped a piece of candy into his pants pocket, and clenched my fist encouragingly. Jihyeok-hyung’s entire body jolted at my hand slipping the candy into his pocket, then he stared at me with a dazed expression without saying anything. Worried that he might hit me, I quickly fled.
I had two pieces of candy left, so I put one in my mouth and rolled it around. After thinking for a while about who I should give the last one to,
“Gwonhyeok-ah, Jihwan-ie said you should have this.”
Cha Gwonhyeok was chosen. While I was at it, I also played Cupid.
“…That guy did?”
When I said Kim Jihwan had given it to him, he paused briefly, so he must have been excited. As expected, you two are destined for each other even without me doing anything.
“I’m going out to eat with Jihwan after this. What do you like?”
“You’re letting me join you too?”
“Of course. We’re a set.”
Of course, Cha Gwonhyeok and Kim Jihwan were the buy-one-get-one deal, while I was probably the free extra. Anyway, the exams were over, so how nice would it be to eat something delicious with my friends? And while we were at it, Kim Jihwan and Cha Gwonhyeok’s relationship could deepen too.
“Wanna come to my house?”
“Hm?”
“My house. Come over for dinner.”
Cha Gwonhyeok casually invited us to his house. Wow, you’re already bringing Kim Jihwan home? You two are moving way too fast.
“You don’t want to?”
Cha Gwonhyeok asked while watching my reaction.
“No, I’d love to!”
The faster they progressed, the better. Hurry up and get all lovey-dovey, kids!

Inside the taxi heading to Cha Gwonhyeok’s house.
The three of us sat side by side in the back seat. We were seated in the order of me / Cha Gwonhyeok / Kim Jihwan. Kim Jihwan, sitting in the innermost seat, was obsessed with checking the answers on his test papers. As more circles appeared, the tense furrow between his brows relaxed slightly. It seemed his mood was improving because he had received a fairly good score.
This was perfect timing.
Push-.
I firmly pushed Cha Gwonhyeok’s shoulder as he sat in the middle. I was hoping his body would tilt toward Kim Jihwan.
Hurry up and talk to Kim Jihwan, Cha Gwonhyeok! He’s in a good mood right now!
“?”
But he didn’t budge at all and merely stared at me. It seemed my plan had failed. I pretended not to know anything and naturally started a conversation.
“Gwonhyeok, you must transfer schools pretty often.”
“I suppose I do.”
“How long are you going to stay at our school?”
I had already assumed he would leave soon. Since this was only a brief connection from high school, he would probably disappear when the time came. Then, once he became an adult, he would undoubtedly return as a perfectly successful man.
“I’m not sure. I don’t really know how long I’ll stay.”
“Do you like our school?”
“Yeah.”
Our school was relatively new, and it was the largest and best school in the area. It was occasionally used as a filming location for dramas, and it had gone viral on social media several times for having pretty uniforms. So Cha Gwonhyeok was probably enjoying his school life to some extent.
“Are we ordering food?”
“There’s someone who cooks for me, but if there’s something I want, I order delivery.”
In the novel, the main top confined Kim Jihwan in his home for several months. It wasn’t the kind of harsh confinement where he was treated like a criminal. It was imperial confinement, complete with a soft bed and a seven-dish meal laid out for him. There had been a description of a housekeeper back then too, so he had grown up in this kind of environment since high school. Rich people really were different in every possible way.
“As long as it won’t be too much trouble, I’d like to try their cooking.”
I was genuinely curious.
The seven-dish meal from the novel.
