“Forget it, blow your nose. Blow!”

He grabbed the back of my head, clutched the front of his uniform, and held it out to me as though telling me to blow my nose into his chest. I pulled my head back.

“Agh! Let go! I don’t want to! That’s disgusting!”

“The disgusting thing here is your face! You look like a complete fool right now!”

The hand gripping the fool’s hair as though to rip every strand out finally forced me to blow my nose. I tasted the humiliation of being overwhelmed by sheer physical strength. He was ridiculously strong for such a small, skinny body.

“Sniff, I’ll wash your uniform for you. Give it to me.”

“Fuck off. Do you think my house doesn’t have a washing machine?”

“There was a washing machine in that house?”

Enraged, he sprang to his feet, cursing shrilly as though he were about to hit me. I leaped away before I could get hit.

We ran noisily through the neighborhood like Tom and Jerry, causing a huge commotion. Strangely enough, that was how the day ended. I didn’t die, and for the first time in a very long while, I escaped the cycle of repeated deaths. I had no idea how it worked, but tomorrow had finally come for me.

At whose hands had I kept dying?

“Coach, I think a School Violence Committee hearing is going to be held for me.”

Early in the morning, I went to the Swimming Club coach and told him honestly. The coach and the Swimming Club members preparing for morning practice were thrown into an uproar.

“I’m sorry….”

I bowed my head and apologized to everyone in the Swimming Club. When I apologized with my spirits completely crushed, the coach and the sunbaes comforted me instead, saying it was alright.

“Oh, Coach! Then the breaststroke spot is open, right?”

“Nice- Can’t I compete?”

“Wow, look at the loyalty of these first-year bastards.”

The other first-years raced excitedly through the pool, splashing everywhere as they tried to be selected for breaststroke, delighted that they had been given a chance to compete in Baek Hanrim’s place.

I watched them for a while, then stepped away and called Jihyeok-hyung aside.

“Hyung, no matter how much I think about it, I still don’t understand what you meant back then.”

We moved into a dusty gym equipment room filled with all kinds of miscellaneous junk and closed the door. Then I brought it up first. Come to think of it, a gym equipment room like this was a cliché too.

“……I know you’d never do something like that, but I mentioned it just in case.”

When I asked what he had truly meant, Jihyeok-hyung gave me another vague answer. Being cautious and prudent was a good personality trait, but it really wasn’t helpful when it came to solving anything.

“What did I do?”

It was all or nothing now. I was going to stop worrying about his reaction and ask him outright.

I stepped right up to Jihyeok-hyung, stared directly into his eyes, and pressed him.

“Me, I’m not dying this time even when I want to. I’m holding on, you know? Help me keep living, hyung.”

“……You were trying to die?”

Jihyeok-hyung asked me back, his eyes wide with shock. Wait, then he hadn’t been talking about my transmigration? Then what in the world had he been talking about?

“Then what exactly did you mean when you told me not to do ‘something like that’?”

Only then did Jihyeok-hyung honestly reveal the truth to me. It had absolutely nothing to do with my transmigration.

“Does that mean you can’t compete in swimming competitions anymore?”

Cha Gwonhyeok asked toward my back as I drank water at the sink after finishing lunch.

“Pfft…! Cough….”

I choked slightly on the water. Now, whenever this guy spoke from behind me, it felt as though my heart dropped. At least make some noise before approaching me.

“I could compete if the School Violence Committee clears me, but it’s harder to prove that I didn’t do something than to prove that I did.”

Without showing my agitation, I wiped my mouth on the short sleeve of my summer uniform and answered. No matter how unfair it was, I was in the position of the perpetrator, so I had to prove that the act had never occurred. That wasn’t easy.

“Wouldn’t it all be over if Kim Dumbass or whatever said it wasn’t true?”

“It’s Byeongjun, Jihwan-ah.”
(T/N: Byeongshin means dumbass or asshole)

After correcting Kim Byeongjun’s name, which had somehow already become Kim Dumbass, I explained that Byeongjun was avoiding speaking with me and hadn’t come to school since that day.

“You should’ve just held out. The School Violence Committee hasn’t even been held yet. You already submitted your competition application while your record was still clean.”

“Ah, but what if we ended up winning something-.”

We were a weak team, so there was little chance of winning anything, but I had gone into this with the determination to produce some kind of result even if the sky split in two. I didn’t want to enter the competition with the complacent thought that it was fine because we wouldn’t win anything anyway. More importantly, I wanted to stop talking about this now.

“Ah- I only ate one bowl today, so I’m hungry! Guys, want to go to the school store?”

I shamelessly changed the subject after their continued questioning and suggested going to the school store. Kim Jihwan sighed and muttered that I was a pig. Kim Jihwan and Cha Gwonhyeok stopped asking questions and obediently followed me.
