Transmigrated as the Side Top used as an Emotional Trash Can - Chapter 55.2
“Whoa… That’s insane… It really must’ve been a person killing them whenever we heard several shots…”
“Ugh, I think I’m going to throw up…”
When I organized their deductions and explained them, some of the kids panicked, while others became rigid as stone, at a loss for words. I continued posing questions to them.
“Was the kid who claimed to be Police and died really Number 5?”
The timing of Number 5’s appearance had been strange from the beginning. He appeared immediately after the Mafia revealed their numbers during the discussion. It was as though one of the Mafia members had learned the numbers and devised a scheme.
“They might’ve switched the numbers…!”
“Right, when Number 5 was identified, they could’ve shot someone and made it look as though Number 5 died from the vote. Then the real one could still be alive somewhere in this classroom!”
They switched the numbers, then shot someone when that number was identified and disguised it as death by vote. The number disguised as having died from the vote would never be identified again. That would make their real number safe.
It was a strategy only a Mafia member who had a gun and could see could use.
“One of the Mafia manipulated the numbers.”
They disguised one kid as Number 5 and gave him information from the Mafia so he could pretend to be Police. The kid who received the information and number willingly accepted because it increased his chances of survival. Then, once he had served his purpose, he was killed.
“He really was playing a ‘game’ all by himself…”
He didn’t think of his friends as friends or people as people. He treated them as nothing more than Townspeople or players, and used every possible method to win.
I searched through the pile of corpses and found one with a strangely lifelike complexion. The corpse had taken a position with one hand buried deep in a place where no one could see it, as though trying to hide something.
“Hello, Purple.”
Immediately after greeting him, I yanked one of the corpse’s arms out.
“Ah…”
I had pulled rather hard, and perhaps his shoulder hurt because the corpse involuntarily made a sound.
“You hid here and killed the others from behind, didn’t you?”
You twisted the rule of executing people amid chaos where no one could tell where the bullets were coming from, and made the game cruel. Was there really any reason to go this far? What was so important about 10 billion won…
“And saying you were Number 15 at first was a lie too?”
“…Fuck, let go…”
I questioned Mafia Purple, whose name tag read Kwon Jayoon. Kwon Jayoon ground out a curse and expressed his displeasure.
“…You’re so fucking irritating, pretending to be such a good person.”
Kwon Jayoon suddenly raised his gun and aimed it at me.
“I really wanted to kill you. You know that?”
Clack.
“Isn’t your magazine empty?”
I calmly spoke before the threatening barrel pointed at me with a clack. Three corpses had been shot three times each, and one had been shot four times. It was almost amusing that he continued gripping the gun as though it were his lifeline even after using all thirteen bullets. But Kwon Jayoon didn’t lower the gun.
“I’m the one who did all the fucking work, and now you show up at the end and start this shit!”
“You did… work hard. Since you killed the most people.”
“What are you trying to do! Do you think anything will change if you kill me now?!”
I merely gave him a faint smile. Then I pulled Purple to his feet and introduced him to the kids.
“Guys. I’m Baek Hanrim, and this is Kwon Jayoon. We’re Mafia.”
Kwon Jayoon looked as though he had no idea what I was trying to do. Bringing him with me, I said something I had wanted to try even though I had no idea whether it was possible.
“Could we stop killing each other now and try to end this game?”
Even if I could never understand you in the end, I wanted to try doing it this way.
“This won’t bring the dead kids back… but let’s stop now.”
There weren’t many of us left, but if we cooperated properly, couldn’t we end the game safely? If we put our heads together and thought about it, we might be able to find a loophole in the rules. Maybe I was being too optimistic, but trying something was better than doing nothing.
“…I don’t really understand what’s happening, but alright. I just want this game to end quickly.”
“Just let us go home…”
“Fuck… I’m seriously exhausted…”
The time for the execution had arrived.
I told the kids not to execute anyone. If no one said anything, no one would die. The kids agreed.
“…Vote to execute Number 1.”
All except one.
“Jayoon-ah.”
Mafia Purple—Kwon Jayoon—voted for Number 1.
He had probably remembered that when the Mafia shared their numbers, I said mine was ‘the smallest number,’ and called it out.
I could see Kwon Jayoon’s trembling pupils and pallid complexion. Had he been killing the kids all this time with that look on his face?
“…Baek Hanrim, I need the 10 billion won…”
Bang!
With the final sharp gunshot, the world stopped.
The Mafia won.
