Come to think of it, I realized I had never spoken to them about this kind of subject. We had plenty to talk about even without it, so there had never been any particular need to bring up their romantic histories.

“Fucking assholes kept pissing me off.”

Kim Jihwan answered my question first.

Searching through my memories, I recalled that when Kim Jihwan was in middle school, some guy had drawn a massive heart out of roses on the school field, stepped inside it, and breakdanced while launching a confession attack in front of the entire school.

I think the bastard had sung an original song after dancing too. Remembering it made Kim Jihwan seem like the very picture of a suffering bottom. What kind of ridiculous setting was that?

“Haha.”

Meanwhile, Cha Gwonhyeok merely gave a light laugh instead of answering.

Ha. Ha. It felt as though Cha Gwonhyeok’s entire romantic history had been condensed into those two syllables, and Hyeonjin-hyung and I became slightly solemn.

He was the kind of guy who got asked for his number just by breathing on the street, so hadn’t the number of people he had dated already reached double digits?

“I feel like asking your friends will only get me stories I can’t relate to…”

“Hyung, apparently Gwonhyeok might’ve never dated anyone. The Drama Club kids said so.”

“There’s no way… Achoo!”

Hyeonjin-hyung had been speaking perfectly normally when he suddenly sneezed. Thinking he might be a little cold, I took off my school uniform jacket and gave it to him.

“Put this over yourself. I get hot easily.”

“That’s true. Hanrim sweated a lot during the summer.”

Cha Gwonhyeok added that after remembering how I had constantly sweated during the summer. Then Cha Gwonhyeok suddenly began coughing. What was this? Was a cold going around?

“Do you want to wear this too?”

I asked Cha Gwonhyeok while unbuttoning the school cardigan I was wearing underneath. He didn’t particularly seem inclined to refuse, so I took it off and laid it over his lap.

I had instantly become the Giving Tree, and enduring the outdoors in late October with nothing but a shirt was somewhat difficult.

“Ugh, if I catch a cold like this, I’m going to spread it to all of you-.”

“Baek Hanrim, you gave them away yourself, so why are you bitching?”

“If you catch a cold, I’ll buy you medicine.”

Kim Jihwan and Cha Gwonhyeok, wearing my windbreaker and cardigan, each contributed a remark.

In the end, Hyeonjin-hyung returned my jacket that day, but Kim Jihwan and Cha Gwonhyeok refused to give my clothes back until the very end. Thanks to them, I had no choice but to go home wearing a cheap nonwoven-fabric jacket and a thin shirt. My body felt chilled, and I had a really bad feeling about it.

“Achoo!”

Huh? I really do feel a little off…

Cough. Cough.

“Ah, I knew this would happen…”

That morning, I collapsed onto my bed halfway through getting dressed for Swimming Club training. My entire body felt hot, and my throat was scratchy. It felt exactly like a cold.

I actually caught one. All because I took off my clothes and gave them away without thinking.

“Phone… My phone…”

I called Coach and my homeroom teacher to tell them about my condition. I also contacted my parents, who were being run ragged by work day and night as always, and told them I wasn’t feeling well and would be missing school.

Even after contacting all the adults, I couldn’t get out of bed for a long time.

“Ugh… I need to… go to the hospital…”

My head was spinning, and it was difficult to breathe through my mouth. Even though I was touching my own skin, it felt so hot that it was strangely unfamiliar.

“Ah, whatever… I’m going to sleep…”

I couldn’t be bothered to prepare food either. All I felt was an overwhelming drowsiness. How long had it been since I had slept this much? Did some part of my body have to be sick before I could get proper rest now? If that was the case, maybe it would be nice to get sick like this occasionally.

It’s nice not having any thoughts.

“…Baek… Wake up… Baek Hanrim-.”

I opened my eyes at the sound of someone calling me.

“Mmm…?”

When I barely lifted my eyelids, I saw Kim Jihwan looking down at me.

“Wake up, Baek Hanrim. You said you had a cold, so why are you sleeping like this?”

At Kim Jihwan’s words, I felt around my body with my eyes only half open. I had fallen asleep on my stomach halfway through putting on my shirt, with it caught around my neck like a frilled lizard. No wonder Kim Jihwan had looked at me strangely. I really had been sleeping in a bizarre position.

“…Sniff, you know I don’t wear anything when I sleep.”

I pulled my shirt down and looked below, only to find that my lower half was even worse. I was wearing nothing but underwear and socks. Holding my shirt firmly down, I looked around for my pants.

“So Hanrim doesn’t wear anything when he sleeps.”

“Agh! You scared me.”

Cha Gwonhyeok spoke as he handed me the pants he had apparently found somewhere. My head was foggy from the fever, so even my startled reaction came half a beat late. Cha Gwonhyeok chuckled at that.

“Jihwan-ah, why did you bring Gwonhyeok when this is embarrassing?”

“That bastard just followed me while we were walking home from school.”

When I asked in embarrassment, Kim Jihwan answered sullenly. I’m delighted beyond words to confirm that you two stick together even without me, guys.

Rustle-.

“Are you feeling shy because I’m here?”

Cha Gwonhyeok held out a bag of medicine as he asked. He really bought it? How thoughtful.

I accepted the bag of medicine and answered Cha Gwonhyeok’s question.

“Jihwan is family, and you’re an outsider.”
