When the Female Lead Went Off-Script, the Main Male Lead Became the Tyrant's Empress - Chapter 1.2
Fortunately, the man who was apparently her uncle immediately called her name and began berating her while bringing up previous events. Thanks to that, she avoided foolishly blurting out, ‘Who are you? Where am I? I’m not Clary!’
Nam Eunjeong let that man’s words go in one ear and out the other, giving vague answers until she spotted an opening and escaped, just as Clary had.
Before she had gone far, his group came chasing after her, exactly as described in the novel.
Nam Eunjeong ran like a madwoman, squeezing out every last ounce of strength she possessed.
When she spotted two impossibly handsome men who appeared to be the Grand Duke and the Crown Prince, she screamed for help.
And just as in the original story, they drove away her uncle and his lackeys.
The male leads asked who she was and what was happening, but Nam Eunjeong only kept shouting at them to tell her where the main road was.
The Crown Prince stared at her as if wondering what kind of lunatic she was after they had gone to all the trouble of saving her, then pointed in one direction.
Nam Eunjeong gave a quick bow and started running again.
‘These shitty wedding shoes. Just see if I ever wear high heels again.’
When she spotted the Emperor passing by in procession, she immediately dove between the legs of one of his guard knights, threw herself before the Emperor, and screamed at the top of her lungs that she was his secret granddaughter.
Clary Lurie was the child born between Princess Anaris, the Emperor’s daughter, and Baron Lurie.
The Emperor and the nobles had fiercely opposed their relationship, but Anaris chose a morganatic marriage with the Baron, even relinquishing her title as Crown Princess.
Nam Eunjeong couldn’t understand it.
What was so great about that damned love that she had given up not only her title, but also her wealth and her ties to her family?
What was even more ridiculous was that she had hidden her real name and identity from her child, claiming that she wanted to prevent her only daughter from becoming entangled in politics, that she wanted to abandon her past, or whatever else.
Clary’s identity was revealed in the middle to latter half of the novel, and what made it even more infuriating was that she could have avoided all that goddamned suffering at the beginning and lived perfectly well in luxury.
Clary always wore a ruby gold necklace that had belonged to her mother, and it was proof that she was the daughter of an Imperial Princess.
The Emperor had personally designed it for his daughter and commissioned its creation.
‘But Clary kept it carefully hidden beneath her clothes and only took it out whenever she was struggling. Ha…….’
Nam Eunjeong swung the necklace around like a fan waving a light stick at an idol concert.
The Emperor, apparently blessed with excellent dynamic visual acuity, managed to spot it perfectly well. He embraced her and recited the clichéd line, “You look just like your mother…….”
‘Thank goodness Clary took after her mother. What would I have done if she looked like her father?’
She thought she had finally survived this shitty novel.
That was a lie. In truth, tears had welled up so much that she thought she might die.
‘As if these bastards would give me up so easily.’
What kind of character was Clary?
She occupied the position of the female lead and was the object of two men’s obsession.
Even if the female lead was acknowledged as an imperial grandchild, would they really give her up?
‘They’ll probably get even more turned on because it’s a forbidden relationship and obsess over me even harder!’
One might call it delusional, but this was that kind of novel.
If the story had followed any semblance of logic, why would Clary have suffered so much and died so miserably?
The Crown Prince even discovered that the female lead was his literal niece, but because of his possessiveness, he concealed the truth until the very end and continued their relationship.
‘You’re the worst one, you son of a bitch. Go stand in the corner with your head against the wall.’
Did that mean the Grand Duke was any better?
No. He knew that the Crown Prince was hiding Clary’s identity, but he turned a blind eye for the exact same reason.
‘Grand Duke, you’re also a fucking bastard. Go stand next to the Crown Prince with your head against the wall.’
In any case, this was a serious problem.
Nothing had happened yet, but as long as the story carried the ‘#DarkAngst’ tag, there was no knowing when misfortune would strike or when everything would become twisted.
Fucking dark angst stories. Fucking hashtags.
Fucking 「Within the Cage, the Bird’s Wings Lay Broken」.
Dark angst stories were only entertaining when you were reading them. Once they became reality, they weren’t entertaining at all, and the genre changed into gore.
“Fuck, but I actually get tortured in this one.”
Clary, the very embodiment of misfortune, was kidnapped and imprisoned for all sorts of reasons, and as if that weren’t enough, she was even tortured. It truly brought tears to one’s eyes.
Still, didn’t they say that even if the sky collapsed, there would always be a hole to escape through?
After many twists and turns—involving screaming matches and people grabbing one another by the collar—the day came when she was formally recognized as a member of the imperial family.
From that day onward, everything changed.
Nam Eunjeong stared with dead eyes at the Emperor Emeritus clutching the back of his neck, at the secondary male lead clinging to the main male lead and begging him to marry him, and at the horrified main male lead himself.
Shouldn’t they just go and change the title of this story?
From 「Within the Cage, the Bird’s Wings Lay Broken」 to 「When the Female Lead Went Off-Script, the Main Male Lead Became the Tyrant’s Empress」.
‘No, if the female lead of a romance fantasy ran away, shouldn’t the genre switch to fantasy or something? How does it make any sense for the genre to switch to BL? There’s even a secondary female lead!’
No, it did make sense. Now that she thought about it, it was actually rather good.
‘In any case, now I’ll never become entangled with those two in that way, so isn’t this a tremendous relief? Farewell to all the days I spent writhing in worry!’
It was an absolute shitshow.
