Who would dare look upon him with such ominous eyes?

Just as he turned his head to the side in astonishment, trying to find the culprit, he met a familiar pair of violet eyes, so familiar that he knew them all too well, staring at him as if they would devour him.

……Was that bastard the culprit?

Once Haster learned the identity of the gaze fixed upon him, he became displeased that he had made such a fuss over nothing.

“What are you looking at?”

Haster glared fiercely at Arden with a look that clearly meant he shouldn’t stare at people like that.

“What did I even do…….”

Arden tried to defend himself in an aggrieved voice, but Haster shut him out and focused on the baptismal ceremony, which was nearly over.

More precisely, he tried to focus.

‘Let us say that gaze came from him. Then what was that sensation before it?’

It had been an experience too difficult even to describe.

It felt as though stars lost in a stellar wind were finding their proper places and returning to their correct orbits, while at the same time, stars that had been revolving in an orderly and smooth fashion were leaving their positions and plunging into pitch-black darkness.

It felt as though an immensely important, or perhaps entirely worthless, existence had vanished without purpose.

However, Haster would never need to know what it was, nor would he ever be able to.

He didn’t know what had happened, but it was probably nothing important.

While Haster deliberately ignored the indescribable event, wandering stars gave off white and black light as they secretly exchanged signals among themselves.

Everything had gone wrong, and everything had been set right.

‘What in the world was that?’

After returning from the Great Temple, Arden tried to attend to the remaining work of the day, but he couldn’t concentrate. No matter how many times he read the same document, he couldn’t understand a single line.

There was no doubt that something had happened immediately after Clary received her baptism.

A minor commotion had broken out when the Emperor’s granddaughter rose with a bizarre scream, startling the elderly High Priest so badly that he collapsed, but Arden hadn’t had time to pay attention to that.

For the briefest instant, the world had darkened and then brightened again.

It had happened so quickly and lasted such a short time that he would have dismissed it as an illusion if not for the sensation he felt immediately afterward.

The stars danced while orbiting backward.

It was an uncanny sensation that seemed to corrode him with madness as it shifted between brilliant ecstasy and a bleak nightmare.

Amid it all, something vanished without leaving a single trace, as though it had never existed, but he couldn’t tell whether it had been a precious jewel or a cheap toy.

Then, a gaze like intense sunlight capable of burning everything to death persistently swept over the very essence of his being.

Flustered by the indescribable sensation he had experienced for the first time in his life, Arden looked around to see whether anyone else had gone through the same thing.

The congregation was murmuring, but they appeared startled only by the commotion Clary had caused. No one seemed disturbed for the same reason as him.

That was what he thought until he looked at his cousin sitting beside him.

Haster’s face was paler than Clary’s white baptismal robes.

He wore the expression of someone who had been walking along a dark road by moonlight, only to realize that the moon was actually the eye of some enormous predator.

The strange phenomenon Arden had experienced was shocking enough, but the fact that his fearless cousin had made such a face was equally astonishing.

Haster closed his eyes.

Then he opened them again.

After swallowing his fear behind his eyelids, he returned to his usual expression as though nothing had happened.

Until his eyes met Haster’s, Arden had forgotten both what he wanted to say and the fact that he had been staring at him.

‘What are you looking at?’

Now Arden was flustered for an entirely different reason.

He hadn’t done anything, yet Haster suddenly narrowed his eyes at him and snapped in an extremely displeased tone.

His manner was exactly like that of someone dealing with a shameless pervert leering at him with lustful eyes.

“Wait, did he seriously think that was what I was doing?”

Wow, this is unfair!

He had only looked at him for a few seconds, yet suddenly he had become an incorrigible libertine who lusted after his male cousin.

Haster hadn’t even given him a chance to explain!

“Why would he think I was looking at him like that!”

He swore to the heavens that he had never looked at him that way, nor would he ever have any reason to.

Although Arden had met many women, he was a gentleman.

He carelessly set the document he had struggled to read all day onto the desk and rose from his seat.

This wouldn’t do.

He should go tease his niece to improve his mood.
