By studying intensively, she had absorbed a wide variety of knowledge in a short period, like a dry sponge soaking up water.

This was the learning method that suited Clary.

Not some lazy method where she casually studied only the basics each day.

Yet that ungrateful brat had ruined everything without understanding her maternal uncle’s profound intentions.

Therefore, this entire disaster was Clary’s fault.

“It was to instill proper study habits in Clary. Of course, holding classes until the evening and including an encyclopedia on the reading list was overly ambitious of me. I admit that. But it was necessary.”

“So you imprisoned her?”

The razor-sharp voice struck Arden.

“Imprisoned her? I only had her watched so she couldn’t escape when her classes weren’t even over. She can’t spend the rest of her life studying nothing but easy material. And you agreed with my curriculum too.”

“Didn’t you deceive me!”

Haster shouted.

“You misled me with half-truths and outright lies. You claimed that Clary wanted to study of her own accord and that she had no time. And you made me believe that you were an indulgent guardian.”

Damn it.

Arden cursed inwardly.

His mouth had gone completely dry.

A refreshing glass of ice water sat right before him, but beneath the icy blue gaze pressing down upon his body, all he could do was fidget uselessly with his fingers.

“That…… That was because you misunderstood.”

Another thunderous reprimand fell.

“Do not try to shift the responsibility onto me. You were the one who deliberately caused that misunderstanding.”

Haster uncrossed his arms, leaned forward, and growled.

“It wasn’t enough for you to make excuse after excuse. You even fabricated a message to prevent Clary and me from meeting. Why did you do that? Was it to accomplish some objective of yours involving Lurie Harbor? Were you trying to distance Clary from me so that I couldn’t interfere, then surround her with your own people and blind her eyes and ears? Was isolating Clary what you wanted?”

Arden’s eyes widened.

Wow, this is unfair!

I have no recollection of devising a plan that elaborate.

“Shouldn’t you be the one to stop making such bizarre accusations?”

That bastard truly had an extraordinary imagination.

Of course, Arden had prevented him from meeting Clary, but he had never dreamed that Haster would suspect something like that.

Anger suddenly surged within him.

Now that he listened to him, Haster was speaking far too one-sidedly.

Who do you think drove me to do something this childish!

“It’s your fault!”

“What?”

“You keep refusing to see me, so what else was I supposed to do!”

“…….”

“No, what I meant was…… Damn it.”

Arden covered his face with one hand.

I’m screwed.

They first met in Yse when they were both seven years old.

That day, Arden had transferred from the train station to a carriage sent by the Grand Duke and was on his way to Viskolitura Castle.

He had come to the North at his aunt’s invitation to spend the Winter Solstice Festival together for the first time in a while, but Arden was so bored that he felt as though he were on the verge of death.

“Are we there yet?”

“We are almost there, Your Highness.”

Arden opened his mouth wide and yawned.

His body, which was nearly lying across the seat, slid toward the floor of the carriage like liquid.

The journey was unbearably boring.

At first, he had spotted a flock of sheep in a pasture and happily exclaimed, ‘Wow, sheep!’ However, after seeing nothing but sheep and snow-covered meadows no matter how far they traveled, he quickly lost interest.

He tormented his nanny by asking whether they were there yet every five minutes.

It would have been nice if there were at least someone to keep him company during the journey.

Unfortunately, his attendant Mishien had caught a terrible cold the day before the trip and was recuperating, while his older sister, the Crown Princess, couldn’t spare any time because she was preparing for an imperial event.

Therefore, the duty of keeping the Imperial Prince from growing bored fell entirely upon his nanny.

“Look over there. They say that’s a windbreak forest that protects the area from blizzards.”

“Boring.”

Goodness. What am I going to do?

Madam Sentlique clicked her tongue inwardly.

Neither the sheep, the meadows, nor the dense forest captured his attention.

The Imperial Prince lacked patience.

His expression had grown sullen now that he had lost interest in both the Winter Solstice Festival and Yse.

It was obvious that he would soon begin whining to return to the palace.

I wish something that could capture His Highness’s attention would drop straight out of the sky.

Right now.

God, if such a thing appears, I’ll donate more on the winter solstice than the amount I budgeted.

Madam Sentlique, who had been sighing as she looked out the window, widened her eyes.

This is it!
