“So, wh-at I’m thinking is…….”

His voice emerged pathetically cracked.

Arden hurriedly cleared his throat, then explained his predictions and plans to Haster.

Haster listened without complaint.

The green leaves rustled as the wind blew through them.

The warm breeze caressed his hair and kissed his cheek.

What am I doing right now?

His own voice suddenly sounded distant.

His mouth was moving and he was speaking, but he somehow felt detached from himself.

He couldn’t concentrate at all.

Arden had to exert tremendous effort to make himself appear trustworthy to his cousin.

“You brought this up because you need my cooperation.”

After hearing Arden out, Haster paused briefly.

“I believe we should proceed more cautiously. If something goes wrong, relations between the two countries could deteriorate. And above all, I don’t trust that prince. We will set this matter aside until I meet him and speak with him personally.”

“…….”

“Arden?”

“Ah, yes. I’m listening.”

Haster gave the distracted Arden a look that made it clear he viewed him to be pathetic.

“If you have time to think about something else, use it to consider how you’re going to apologize to Clary.”

Only then did Arden come to his senses at Haster’s rebuke.

Ah, right. Clary.

Clary was furious.

She was angry not only with Arden, but also with Haster, who had allowed himself to be quietly abducted without putting up any proper resistance.

It took a day for her anger to subside.

Only where Haster was concerned, of course.

“What is wrong with that child?”

Arden abruptly threw open the door and stormed inside, huffing loudly.

Haster’s brow furrowed at his complete lack of manners.

“Isn’t there something wrong with her personality? How else could she behave like this?”

Arden pressed him fiercely.

Haster raised his head from the book he had been reading.

“Why do you think?”

“Because of that rotten temper.”

“You understand your own temperament quite well.”

“I’m not talking about myself. I mean Clary.”

“If that is what you meant, then you must be the most foolish man I know.”

Clary’s anger toward Arden had continued for four whole days.

Haster was both Clary’s uncle and her godfather.

He always approached Clary sincerely and treated her well.

Arden, on the other hand, took every opportunity to needle and provoke his niece, then smacked her on the back of the head whenever she least expected it.

It was easy to forgive someone whom one trusted and liked, but difficult to forgive someone unpleasant whose credibility was scraping the bottom.

No matter what that person did, it all felt like deception.

“It’s because you didn’t apologize properly.”

“I did. I even sent her gifts that women would like. But she sent all of them back.”

“Because you weren’t sincere.”

Arden was left speechless.

‘This is your fault!’

What exactly was a sincere apology?

Whenever he tried to sit down and carefully study that question, Haster’s laughter suddenly leaped into his mind.

His blue eyes, which had shone more brightly than the silver light glittering across the water.

The smooth curve of his lips.

The expression that had made him look like a boy for a single moment, and so on.

Arden started in alarm.

Why was something so insignificant lingering in his mind and tormenting him?

He had merely seen someone laugh.

After agonizing over it for three nights, Arden reached the following conclusion.

He had been shocked because someone who always showed him mocking smiles and cynical expressions had made an expression he had never seen before.

There was no other explanation.

Swallowing those thoughts, Arden needlessly complained about Clary instead.

“I sent her an apology card and expensive gifts. What more does she need?”

“That is precisely why it won’t work.”

Haster turned his gaze back to his book and replied indifferently.

“Show her that you sincerely regret what you did.”

“How am I supposed to show her when she won’t even meet me! Who did she inherit that personality from?”

Arden’s gaze flew toward Haster.

“……Have you lost your mind?”

Unfortunately, Arden was entirely sane.

His clear, bright amethyst eyes, so unwavering that they almost looked upright, demanded an answer.

At times, he behaved as though Haster bore responsibility for having given birth to her that way.

Haster closed his book.

His temper urged him to snap, ‘The problems between you punks are yours to solve,’ wash his hands of the matter, and return to the North.

But he didn’t.

It wasn’t because Arden’s coronation or Clary weighed upon his mind.

It was because of Troanne’s advice.
