Wrong Genre! - Chapter 25.1
“Are you really sure? Rueg doesn’t remember anything about you now, Your Highness.”
‘If I use my power…’
Rueg would forget everything that had happened to him yesterday. Then he wouldn’t have to suffer from nightmares anymore, and he wouldn’t have to cry like this.
But if he made even the slightest mistake while erasing yesterday’s memories, all the memories in his head might disappear.
…Just like ‘that day’ ten years ago.
Still, it was hard to just watch Rueg struggle like this. Not knowing what to do, Felix bit his lip in agitation, and in the end, he simply held Rueg for a long time.
Even with Felix’s soothing touch, Rueg couldn’t fall into deep sleep. Eventually, his body trembled violently, and he woke with a start.
“Hah, huff, haah… haa…”
Rueg sat up as if in a fit, gasping for breath, then slowly looked around.
“This time, it’s… His Highness’s room…?”
Was he still thinking he was dreaming?
“Rueg.”
At Felix’s call, Rueg, who was in his arms, slowly lifted his head.
When their eyes met, the golden eyes that usually shone brightly looked unfocused.
He clearly hadn’t fully woken up yet.
“Your Highness…? Your Highness… But why are you still awake…? Can’t you sleep…?”
Even while thinking it was a dream, Rueg worried about Felix first.
You should sleep soon.
If you don’t sleep, you’ll be tired again.
At the stream of worried words directed at him, Felix unconsciously bit the inside of his cheek.
After listening quietly to Rueg’s sleepy murmuring, Felix asked in a low voice,
“…I can erase your memory.”
“……?”
“I can erase all of yesterday’s memories. But if something goes wrong…”
Felix was about to say that he might lose all of his memories, but he closed his mouth.
If it was truly for Rueg’s sake, he should say it, but something seemed to catch in his throat.
“Mmm, no… I don’t want that…”
Before Felix could voice the worry he had been holding inside, Rueg slowly shook his head.
Fidgeting, Rueg wrapped his arms around Felix’s waist and murmured,
“If my memories disappear… I’ll forget you too, Your Highness…”
“……”
“I don’t want to forget… touching you…”
At those words, Felix’s fingertips trembled faintly.
“I don’t want to forget. I… I don’t want to forget you.”
The image of little Rueg shaking his head desperately, tears streaming down his face, flashed before his eyes.
But Felix held his breath, clenched his fist tightly, and asked,
“If you keep those memories, you’ll probably have nightmares again. …Even so?”
“Yes… I can endure it. Because you came to save me, Your Highness. I’m scared, but I’ll be okay…”
The moment he heard that, a dull ache spread through Felix’s chest.
The softly whispered words were so warm and lovely. And he felt deeply sorry that he hadn’t been able to protect him from the very beginning.
When Felix pulled him into a tight embrace, Rueg squirmed slightly, saying he couldn’t breathe.
After a long moment of uneven breathing, Rueg spoke in a voice heavy with sleepiness.
“Your Highness…”
“Yes.”
“…I think I like you.”
At the words that came from Rueg’s lips, Felix’s expression softened.
For a moment, it felt as if his breath had stopped.
Unable to respond, Felix slowly reached out and covered Rueg’s eyes, which looked like they might close again at any moment.
Contrary to his expectation that Rueg might turn away or protest, steady breathing soon followed from his lips once more.
When Felix carefully removed his hand, Rueg had already fallen asleep again.
His long eyelashes, straight nose, and soft, pretty lips. Gently brushing those lips with his finger, Felix spoke in a restrained voice.
“Why is it that you… always choose someone like me…”
Ten years ago, and even now, when Rueg didn’t remember him at all.
He couldn’t understand why someone who could smile like the sun would reach out a hand to someone like him, who lived at the bottom of hell.
