A World Where You All Are The Villains - Chapter 15.2
‘She really is kind.’
At last, aside from the clothes Eston was wearing, all evidence of the rampage was gone.
And through it all, Nancy didn’t ask me a single question.
She was quick with both her hands and her wits.
If this were modern times, she’d be just the kind of talent I’d want as an assistant.
But the time I’d spent with her wasn’t nearly enough to build real trust.
“Nancy, could you come here for a moment?”
“Yes!”
After cleaning her dirty hands, Nancy obediently hurried over to me.
“What is it, Milady?”
“Here, take this.”
I handed her the ring I’d set aside in advance.
“W-Why are you giving this to me…?”
“You should definitely get a bonus for all your hard work today.”
“B-But… it’s only natural for me to do this as your maid, Milady!”
“That’s your hush money, too.”
At the chill in my voice, so cold it might’ve turned her off, Nancy flinched and her slender shoulders trembled.
‘Sorry, Nancy.’
But I had no choice.
Anyone could see something was wrong. The black blood, the Awakener collapsed and bleeding on the floor.
Even if Nancy didn’t know much about ‘Awakener Rampages’, it would be a huge problem if this situation spread.
‘I have to hide the fact that I’ve awakened as much as possible.’
Honestly, it still doesn’t feel real.
That Edith is an Awakener, and that I can use my original ability—Purification—in this body.
‘And that it’s even stronger than before…’
I’ll have to get it tested to know for sure, but it’s definitely not just D-Class.
At this rate, it was even faster than the female lead’s speed at purifying the male leads.
‘Of course, you can’t really tell in the novel since there were no rampage percentages shown…’
I remembered clearly that, for Llewellyn, purification sometimes took half a day, sometimes a whole week.
And Awakening aside, the thing I most had to hide was—
‘Dual Awakener.’
That’s right.
Thinking it through, I basically had two abilities now:
The power to see rampage percentages, and the ability to purify miasma.
Dual Awakeners were so rare in the real world I came from, they could be counted on one hand worldwide, and almost nothing was known about them.
So of course, in this damned novel that just worships the female lead, such a thing never even appeared!
‘If it gets out that I’m a Dual Awakener, who knows how I’ll be used?’
So keeping Nancy’s mouth shut wasn’t optional, it was necessary.
And then.
“…Milady.”
Just as her wavering eyes met mine, she looked at me with a firm, determined expression.
‘As expected.’
It felt predictable.
In the novel, the female lead always built strong bonds with those around her.
― Sincerity will always get through someday, Grand Duke Belnac!
― Why do you always have to talk so badly, Edith? I thought we could be good friends…
― Everyone has their own pain, you know. I want to become a Purifier who can cleanse all of that too, Vincent.
Recalling some of the female lead’s typical lines, I gave a bitter smile.
Sincerity? Friendship? Love?
As a jaded, worn-down Korean office worker, I didn’t believe in any of those fairy-tale notions.
A world of flowers is only possible for a protagonist.
‘But I’m not the female lead. Hell, I’m a villainess being screwed over by the world…!’
For an outsider who transmigrated as someone else, everything was harsh reality.
Isn’t that why I was already dealing with an Awakener rampage at the start? Damn it!
So it was only natural for Nancy to accept the ring.
But then…
“Did you know?”
Suddenly, Nancy reached out with both hands and grabbed the hand holding out the ring.
And then she said,
“When I first transferred from Ezenia to the ducal house five years ago, I was once accused of stealing your ring, Milady.”
“…What?”
The unexpected words made my eyes widen.
Nancy gave a faint, somewhat bitter smile.
“People misunderstood and thought you favored me, that’s why you brought me with you to the villa.”
“That really happened?”
“Yes…”
She nodded, then continued,
“When the ring was found in my room, everyone was so excited and ran straight to you. Do you remember what you said then, Milady?”
“……”
‘What the hell did I say…?’
“‘Why is everyone making such a fuss first thing in the morning over just one little thing? Do you all want one too? Then grab a rag and work like she does.’”
“……”
“At the time, I was cleaning your room by myself.”
