A World Where You All Are The Villains - Chapter 3.1
― ……Vincent! Dylan!
― …….
― Take me with you too! Please? It was all my fault!
― …….
― Brother! Brother Ethan! Hiic, I’m scared. Please don’t leave me alone! Someone, please save me…… Kyaaaah―!
“Huuhk.”
At the sound of someone’s sharp scream, I jolted awake.
I’d had a very unpleasant, disturbing dream.
I suddenly transmigrated into a novel as the villainess, and after being beaten up relentlessly, I ended up trapped inside a Gate. Not a single one of those bastards came to save me, so I died, only to open my eyes again inside a coffin……
As I recalled the fading contents of the dream, I suddenly shivered at the sunlight stabbing into my eyes.
“What time is it? Work……!”
As I hurriedly tried to get up, I froze at the unfamiliar sight before me.
Unlike my cramped dorm room, which held nothing more than a single bed and a makeshift desk, an expansive space unfolded before my eyes.
A bed so large even three people could fit with room to spare, a canopy dripping with lace, dazzling ornaments……
At the sight, it was as if a bucket of cold water had been poured over my head.
“……Right. I really did get transmigrated.”
Ha……
I let out a deep sigh and rubbed my face dry with my hands.
I’d thought it was just a stupid dream, but everything was real.
That I had transmigrated as the villainess in the novel.
And of all things, that I had awakened in the middle of her funeral, after she’d died.
‘Isn’t it usually the other way around?’
Usually, you possess the body of someone alive after dying yourself. Do people even possess the bodies of those already dead?
As I followed this train of thought, I realized there was something off with what I’d just said.
‘Or maybe not. Did I actually die though?’
I recalled the wretched events that had happened to me just before I possessed this place.
― Hang in there, Dr. Yoo! Both of us getting swept up and dying like dogs can’t happen, right? Someone has to call for help from outside.
― You’re smart, so as long as you hide well, you’ll be fine.
The day after reading this damned book, I was swept into a suddenly opened Gate at a field site I was visiting for an investigation.
My memory ended with my father’s first adopted child abandoning me and running away.
‘……Yeah, I probably died.’
If I’d miraculously survived and been rescued, I wouldn’t be here.
As that thought occurred to me, my mood rapidly plummeted.
“So did a dead person come back to life in a dead body? Is this like reincarnation or something?”
Damn it, I have no idea.
Having hardly ever read this sort of novel before, I just couldn’t understand the logic behind this possession thing.
What I was most worried about, above all, was the seminar scheduled for next week.
I was supposed to announce the commercialization of cure-1 and finally have my chance to get back at my father……!
“Don’t tell me Edith ended up in my body? No, no, it’s not like a fictional character would have a soul…… Ugh, I should have had Assistant Kim make a backup, shit…….”
Tearing at my hair in distress, it took me a long time before I looked around at my surroundings.
“……But where is this? The duke’s house?”
But the place where Edith died wasn’t the capital where the ducal house was located.
I tried to recall the hazy plot of the novel I’d only skimmed.
Click.
Suddenly, the sound of a door opening, and someone entered the room.
“A-Ah, Milady……?”
A woman in a maid uniform, carrying a washbasin, stopped dead when she saw me sitting there blankly, her mouth dropping open.
Then, clang―!
“H-Head butler! Doctor! L-Lady Edith has woken up!”
She threw the washbasin aside and dashed out of the room in a hurry.
Not long after, the once-empty room was crowded with people brought in by the maid.
“Milady, can you open your eyes wide for me? Yes. Now, please open your mouth……”
An elderly man, apparently a doctor, checked me over with somewhat rushed hands.
It hurt a little, but I obediently let him.
After all, I was curious myself whether this body that had died and come back to life was really alright.
Finally, after taking blood and even some hair from me, the doctor busily opened his medical bag without saying a word about my condition.
‘What is this, are they doing a genetic test or something?’
Worried someone might swap the corpse and have an imposter pretend to be the Ducal Lady?
I felt a bit guilty, since the truth was that the person inside had actually been swapped out.
‘But do they even have genetic tests here?’
My growing curiosity was interrupted by the next visitor.
“Milady, may I check your body for a moment?”
A young woman standing behind the doctor approached, both hands glowing white.
‘……An Awakened?’
Without waiting for permission, she laid her hands on me.
“Ah.”
I frowned in discomfort, but it was soon drowned out by the foreign sensation radiating from her hands.
A warm light swept over every inch of my body as if searching for something.
‘……A healer-type Awakened.’
For some reason, my body felt lighter and my mind clearer.
‘As expected, it’s nice being born into a wealthy family.’
Although I was born into a rich family, I had never once met a healer-type Awakened before, so I let out a bitter smile.
‘Still, I guess Edith’s situation is a bit better than my childhood, at least?’
