A World Where You All Are The Villains - Chapter 38.2
“Uh… I’ll go get someone right away.”
“…What?”
“J-Just hang in there a bit, Dr. Yoo! We can’t both get swept up and die for nothing, right? I need to call for help outside at least, don’t I?”
“What kind of bullshit is that!”
Just come over here and grab me!
This was a dire emergency, and I couldn’t make sense of what he was babbling about.
Meanwhile, my body, already slightly off the ground, was steadily being dragged backward.
Frantically, I looked around, but on that desolate land, there wasn’t a single tree or anything I could grab onto.
“…The golden time is over. See, you should’ve run when I told you to.”
Yoo Jihan looked at me and made his own arbitrary conclusion.
“Hey, Yoo Sol. You’re smart, so if you find a good place to hide, you’ll be fine. You trust your brother, right? I’m not saying I won’t save you, you know?”
While he babbled, still backing away, he suddenly turned on his heel.
And he quickly started moving away from me.
He was running away alone.
“W-Wait! Yoo Jihan!”
What bullshit. Telling me to hide inside a Gate, swarming with monsters.
‘Where, exactly?’
It was basically telling me to just go die.
“Yoo, Yoo Jihan! Wait! You crazy bas— No, oppa! Jihan-oppa―!”
A word I thought I’d never let slip, even at knifepoint, just burst out of my mouth.
I knew, too.
Just as he said, there was no point in both of us getting sucked in.
No matter how outstanding an Awakened you are, you can’t conquer a Gate by yourself.
But still, for a so-called soldier to run away and leave a civilian in mortal danger… Wasn’t that too much?
Even if we weren’t related by blood, we’d still grown up together for nearly ten years…!
“Hah…”
I stared in disbelief at him, running away with his tail between his legs, as if afraid he’d get sucked in too.
I couldn’t even bring myself to beg, ‘Don’t leave me’ or ‘Save me’.
I was just too dumbfounded, too shocked.
But that didn’t last long.
“Kyah, gyaaaaagh!”
Swept up in the storm, my body began to toss about like a scrap of paper.
Rising, falling, just like an amusement park ride, the dizzying sensation enveloped my whole body.
“Yoo Jihan…!”
Screaming, I soon began shrieking his name in desperation.
“Yoo Jihan! Yoo Jihan, you fucking bastard―!”
Are you even human?
Can’t you do something with those damned powers you always brag about?!
My last words—practically a death wail—echoed emptily across the vast wasteland.
“Aaaaaaagh―!”
Just as I was about to be sucked into the Gate, its mouth gaping open like some monstrous maw.
A blinding light pierced my eyes.
And then…
.
.
.
“Hah…!”
I jolted upright, sucking in a ragged breath.
“Ah, Milady!”
“Y-Your Ladyship. Are you all right?”
Panting and shuddering, I slowly lifted my head at the familiar presence beside me.
I saw familiar faces.
“…Eston?”
Next to her stood Nancy and the butler, both with anxious expressions.
Only then did I take in my surroundings.
I was lying on my bed, inside my room at the ducal mansion.
Morning sunlight streamed brightly through the window, filling the room with warmth.
Seeing that, a feeling I couldn’t describe washed over me.
Was it relief, or was it something more complicated?
“Haa…”
I let out a deep sigh and wiped my face dry with my hands.
Then, in a subdued voice, I asked,
“…How did I get here?”
“You collapsed at the palace. Young Master Ethan brought you home.”
The butler added, worry on his face.
“Did you have a nightmare, Milady?”
“…Yeah.”
It was a hell of a dream.
I nodded and mumbled softly.
Even now, my head was spinning as if I were still caught in a storm, and my heart was pounding like crazy.
Biting my lip, I thought irritably,
‘So annoying. Of all things, why did I have to dream about that damned shitface…’
Maybe arguing with Ethan right before collapsing had triggered it.
Given how memories I’d desperately tried to forget came vividly flooding back.
Regrettably, the end I saw in my dream wasn’t just some random bad dream.
How I died, before I ended up in this damned novel.
My final memory from reality…
And the past I had actually lived through.
