“I finished most of your healing last night.”

At that moment, Eston spoke up.

No wonder. Last night, every time I tried to speak, it felt like my throat was being ripped apart, but now I was perfectly fine.

“How did you get such an injury on your neck? It looked like scratch marks from fingernails…”

“……”

“The blood vessels in your eyes all burst, and the inside of your throat was severely swollen, too. It seemed like you had trouble breathing… Do you have a metal allergy, by any chance?”

True to her status as a healer-type Awakener, she accurately pointed out the causes behind my wrecked throat.

Of course, she couldn’t possibly imagine that some madman had tried to strangle me.

At her questions, the events of last night began to come back to me one by one.

‘……It really was spectacular.’

Not only did I face Male Lead #4, I even ended up meeting #1, #2, and #3 all in one place.

Honestly, maybe it was for the best that I fainted when I did.

“Her Ladyship does not have any metal allergies……”

The butler answered in my place, as I was lost in thought.

“Milady, was there any problem with the necklace you were wearing?”

“It’s nothing like that.”

I shook my head.

“I guess because I don’t usually wear one, it felt uncomfortable, and I must have scratched at it without realizing. As for my swollen throat… there were flowers at the banquet hall.”

“Ah, I see.”

Fortunately, everyone seemed convinced by my excuse.

“This old man’s heart nearly gave out! You’re so delicate, what are we to do… The Duke was very worried as well.”

The butler took out his handkerchief and dabbed at his eyes, throwing out unnecessary TMI.

I replied dully.

“Really.”

“Yes, he even ordered us to prepare only the most nutritious meals for you for the time being, you know.”

“I see. So, where is Father now?”

“Pardon? He went out this morning, he had some business scheduled……”

‘Of course.’

I didn’t expect much, so I wasn’t disappointed.

If the Duke had truly been worried, he would have come at least once to check on the condition of his daughter who had collapsed and returned from the palace.

Instead of simply ordering us to feed me and then heading out to mind his own business.

‘……Still, I guess I’m in a better position with him?’

At least he makes sure I’m fed.

Some parents don’t even notice if their child is bleeding, has broken bones, or is lying sick with a fever.

‘Honestly, it’s better if they don’t know.’

It’s worse when they do know and just look at you with contempt, as if to say, ‘So what do you expect me to do about it?’

Thinking about that put me in a very low mood.

“…What about Brother?”

“The Young Master went to the palace early this morning as well.”

Still, there was at least one thing I gained thanks to the butler’s TMI.

‘So Ethan didn’t go running to the Duke to blab, after all.’

About how I’d caused a scene at the banquet, or gotten into a fight with someone.

I thought for sure he’d go straight to the Duke and spill everything……

‘Well, there isn’t anyone saying I hit them, so I suppose it’d be hard for him to bring it up.’

Maybe Ethan’s suspicions were reasonable, in their own way.

The way Edith had behaved until now must have made it easy to assume that.

Of course, that doesn’t mean I forgive him.

In the meantime, the butler and Eston chatted quietly.

“But even though you said there’s nothing wrong with Milady’s body, isn’t she fainting a bit too frequently? It wasn’t like this before……”

“Ah. Actually, I was going to mention something about that. So, could you give us a moment alone?”

At Eston’s words, the butler flusteredly pointed to himself.

“M-Me? Are you talking about me?”

“Yes. It’s a private conversation only women can have……”

“Hah, really! Look here! It’s my duty to thoroughly check on the lady’s condition!”

“So are you planning to see the lady’s bare body, then? I didn’t expect that of you… how indecent, butler.”

“N-No! Never, Milady! That’s absolutely not what I meant…… I’ll wait outside the door!”

Flustered by someone much younger, the butler hurriedly left the room.

Nancy, too, left to fetch some food, leaving the room in silence.

I stared at Eston, who had just so quickly kicked out the butler, a little surprised.

“…Not bad.”

“I learned it all from you, Milady.”

It wasn’t exactly a pleasant thing to hear.

Eston quickly got to the point.

“Did you use your ability in the palace?”

“…How did you know?”

“The injuries weren’t bad enough to make you collapse.”

The injuries may not have been severe, but the mental shock certainly was.

But there was no chance to admit that before Eston followed up with another question.

“Milady, do you know you faint every time you use your ability?”
