“Is… is that true?”

“Mm.”

“T-That can’t be! I swear I didn’t fall asleep! If anyone had gone in or out, I would’ve known right away…!”

The escort shook his head furiously in denial.

I only gave him the answer he wanted when he was on the verge of tears, then climbed briskly into the carriage.

“Yeah. I was lying.”

“M-Milady…!”

He stammered, face flushed red, but I couldn’t have cared less.

‘Didn’t notice a thing, huh.’

A fruitless outing, exhausting from start to finish.

But at least it had been the perfect crime.

Time flew by like an arrow.

In just over two weeks, I managed to stay reasonably busy.

Between gathering scraps of information about the Sephirot Church through Nancy and Eston, and reluctantly attending a few social gatherings at the Duke’s insistence, the days passed.

At first, I’d gone eagerly, hoping to overhear some noble gossip about that cult.

But gossip, my ass…

All I did was play the model lady and smile until my face hurt.

The only thing the nobles seemed to care about these days was the upcoming Equinis Commemoration Ceremony.

That, and the mysterious disappearance of the Purifier.

‘God, I’d love to know where the female lead’s gone too…’

The four male leads—especially the one who’d acted like he’d summon me any minute to order me around—had been surprisingly quiet.

Since he was a royal himself, I’d hoped I might run into him and ask who Sephirot really was, but there’d been no word at all.

‘Not that I’d ever agree to meet him first!’

He was exactly the kind of person to avoid at all costs, never someone to approach.

“Milady. A letter has arrived from the Frederick Countdom…”

“Again?”

Instead, that bothersome man had been sending invitations every single day.

At the butler’s report, I frowned in sheer disgust.

‘Ugh, creepy bastard! I already sent him a gift, what more does he want?’

The day after I purified Male Lead #3 in Volner and left him behind, I’d sent a small token to confirm he’d made it home alive.

Nothing extravagant, just some imported tea leaves and a few spices.

Simple things that made for polite gifts.

And that very same day, he’d sent a reply asking to meet!

‘After all the trouble you caused me? Meet you, my foot!’

Naturally, I refused.

Whatever he wanted to ask, there was nothing I could safely say.

‘Why was I sprawled out like that? Why did you leave me lying there?’

What was I supposed to answer? ‘Because you went berserk, you lunatic’?

No matter how I looked at it, any answer would only make me look like the villain.

So I chose the simplest path—avoidance.

And ever since, he’d been sending letters practically every day!

“Burn it.”

“Uh… Milady, it’s such a heartfelt letter… perhaps you should at least meet him once…”

“Butler. You do realize a paper knife counts as a knife, don’t you?”

“Yes, ma’am. I’ll burn it right away.”

At the quiet gleam of the paper knife I held up, the butler didn’t argue.

He tossed the letter straight into the fireplace.

‘A heartfelt letter, my ass!’

I shuddered at his ridiculous misunderstanding.

‘Couldn’t he just chalk it up to exhaustion and move on? Why’s he so damned persistent?’

If it were me, I’d have been too humiliated to ask anything after fainting in front of a woman.

At least Dylan, unlike a certain someone, still had a shred of dignity.

He hadn’t barged into the Duke’s estate like an idiot.

‘…He probably doesn’t remember the rampage or the purification anyway.’

Judging from Eston and Serge’s cases, memories right before going berserk tended to blur.

I’d wiped away all the blood, too.

No trace left behind so that incident remained my secret alone.

“From now on, if any letters come from Count Frederick’s estate, don’t deliver them to me. Handle them as you see fit.”

“Yes, Milady!”

I half-listened to the butler’s dutiful reply as I resumed checking the remaining letters I’d paused on.

Most were meaningless invitations, which I skimmed without interest… until a black envelope I’d never seen before caught my eye.

“What’s this, Butler?”

“Huh? That wasn’t there when I checked earlier… My apologies, Milady. It must’ve been mixed in by mistake.”

“It’s addressed to me, though.”

I showed him my name written neatly on the front, then, thinking little of it, broke the seal.

That was my mistake.

I should’ve checked the wax insignia first.

「 By midnight tonight, come to Legion Street, 5th Block.

If you fail to appear, I’ll take it to mean you wish to meet me privately at the Duke’s estate again.

― Serge Belnac 」

So much for thinking he’d finally quieted down.

The fourth male lead had reached out again…

As if to mock me for ever thinking he’d stay silent.
