A World Where You All Are The Villains - Chapter 8.2
Just then—
Knock, knock.
“Milady. It’s me, Nancy.”
Nancy entered with a sudden knock.
“Did your treatment go well?”
“Mm, well… Anyway, what is it?”
“The butler asked me to bring you this.”
Nancy carefully set down the plate she was carrying on the nightstand next to the bed.
I glanced up to check what was on it and found myself puzzled.
“…Chocolate?”
“Yes, the chef just made it a little while ago. He said you always ask for it whenever you’re feeling upset…”
Looks like they’re really anxious I might throw a tantrum like the real Edith.
‘So this is how they’ve been calming me down all this time.’
A villainess whose anger melts away with something sweet… Wasn’t that a bit too simple? The absurdity of it made me let out a soft laugh, and Nancy quickly picked up a piece of chocolate with a fork and offered it to me.
“Ah.”
I accepted it, still sprawled out on the bed.
The soft ganache chocolate melted smoothly as soon as it touched my tongue.
I’d never been particularly fond of sweets, but after actually eating some, I felt my frayed nerves start to relax a little.
As Nancy handed me another piece and I ate it, I asked,
“Nancy. Where exactly did that Gate open near Ezenia?”
“Oh, Tollen?”
“Eston must be from Tollen, right?”
“Yes, that’s right! How did you know?”
“She acts like she holds a personal grudge against me.”
“Oh…”
Nancy smiled awkwardly at my reply.
“Um… I don’t know all the details, but I heard Eston’s younger brother was exposed to the miasma and is really struggling. Maybe that’s why she’s been so sensitive lately…”
“……”
“O-Of course, it was still wrong for her to speak to you that way!”
From what Nancy told me, I could piece together the general situation.
Eston had probably poured all her healing ability into trying to save her younger brother. Maybe not just him, but all the people who were injured in her town.
And then, after seeing me come back to life perfectly fine, she must have felt a wave of resentment.
It was unfortunate, but healing abilities could only delay the body’s decay. They couldn’t fundamentally reverse the condition of those contaminated.
“How bad is the damage? Was it serious enough to cause a riot?”
“Oh, no, not at all. They said it was resolved quickly, so compared to other places, the damage wasn’t that severe.”
Of course it wasn’t.
Didn’t three S-Class Awakened rush there to save the female lead?
I could understand that Eston might be out of her mind over her brother, but still, I couldn’t shake the feeling that she’d taken her frustration out on the wrong person.
‘But didn’t they say Ethan went there to handle the situation?’
A sudden question came to mind.
I asked Nancy directly,
“Then Ethan… my older brother, why did he go down to Ezenia?”
“I guess he went on your behalf out of a sense of duty. After all, Ezenia is still part of the Duchy.”
But my question wasn’t really answered.
‘It’s been a week since the Gate appeared, and only now he’s gone to calm the people down?’
To a village where his hated stepsister’s villa was? Why bother?
Honestly, it made more sense to think he went to throw money around and keep people’s mouths shut, so the female lead’s reputation wouldn’t take a hit.
With that in mind, I started feeling a little wronged.
I’d been the one getting all the blame for causing misunderstandings.
‘If he was going to go, he should’ve done it before I woke up. I really can’t stand that guy.’
As I grumbled, something poked at my lips.
It was Nancy, nervously watching me and quickly holding out another piece of chocolate.
“Your family’s safe, right, Nancy?”
“Yes! I did work in Ezenia, but I’m originally from the west!”
“That’s a relief.”
“As expected, you’re so kind, Milady.”
It was just a casual question, but Nancy’s cheeks turned faintly pink.
I found it a little surprising.
Even in this damned novel, there was someone who considered the villainess to be kind.

With nowhere to go, there wasn’t much for me to do.
Rolling around in bed all morning, before I knew it, it was noon.
After having lunch (brought by Nancy again), I pulled out a random book from the shelf and sat by the window.
I’d just opened it when—
“Milady, it’s me. The butler.”
Suddenly, the butler had come looking for me.
‘What, does he want me to praise the chocolate or something?’
Baffled, I let him into the room.
Maybe because of what happened earlier, he bowed very cautiously and politely.
“What is it?”
“It’s just that… Young Marquis Leandro has come to visit.”
“Who’s that?”
“Oh, your memory…”
I genuinely didn’t know, but the butler gave me a pitying look and stammered as he explained about the visitor for his amnesiac lady.
“The Young Marquis… has been a very close friend of yours since childhood. He awakened his ability at fourteen and is now an S-Class Awakened…”
“Wait.”
I raised my hand to cut him off.
“His name wouldn’t happen to be Vincent, would it?”
“Yes, that’s correct!”
Damn it, why are my bad feelings never wrong?
Vincent Leandro.
