Clutching his muddled head, Moon Seong-yoon tried desperately to regain his composure as he headed toward the bathroom. Before he could begin to make sense of this horrifying situation, he needed to check his own condition first.

He picked up a shirt that had been carelessly tossed onto the floor, used it to cover himself, and staggered toward the bathroom door.

Even as he grasped the gleaming golden doorknob, he couldn’t make himself believe that any of this was real. He pleaded inwardly over and over again, begging to wake up if this was a dream. But the cruel reality remained unchanged.

The bathroom was every bit as extravagant as the bedroom, if not more so. The walls and floor were finished entirely in white marble, there was an enormous bathtub, and the shower enclosure was spacious enough for two people to stand side by side and wash comfortably.

Leaving all of that behind, Moon Seong-yoon approached the sink as though in a trance. The mirror reflected his appearance with perfect clarity. And the moment he came face-to-face with the unfamiliar face staring back at him, he froze completely.

“W-Who is this…?”

The person in the mirror was not Moon Seong-yoon, the thirty-two-year-old man. The sharp-featured man with a tense, sensitive expression, worn down by fatigue and stress, was nowhere to be seen. In his place stood a young man with large, round eyes.

A handsome young man with an innocent, puppy-like appearance was staring back at him with a terrified expression. Damp brown hair, fair and smooth skin, plump lips. He looked barely twenty. He had a youthful face, and… there was something eerily familiar about it.

“Ha!”

A sound resembling a groan escaped through his dry lips. He raised a trembling hand and touched the face reflected in the mirror. He could vividly feel the softness of his cheek. The young man in the mirror raised his hand in exactly the same way and touched his own cheek, too.

This wasn’t a dream. It wasn’t a hallucination, either.

Just then, an illustration suddenly flashed through Moon Seong-yoon’s mind. The face resembled the image of Ryu Hae-sol, the protagonist playing the role of the Soo in the BL novel The Wheel of Shattered Fate, which he had last edited the day before he fell asleep.

Ryu Hae-sol—the poor, timid young man who was abused by his father, relentlessly tormented by Do Won-hyung, the third-generation heir to a chaebol family and the novel’s main Gong, before somehow ending up with a tragic conclusion.

Then, could the man lying in that bed possibly be…?

Moon Seong-yoon—or rather, the man who had now become Ryu Hae-sol—stared at the mirror, seized by a terror so intense that his blood seemed to run cold. Countless puzzle pieces began frantically falling into place inside his head.

The bomb shots he had drunk at the wrap-up party after meeting his deadline last night. A colleague’s joking remark: ‘What are you going to do if you work all the time and end up getting possessed by a character in a novel?’

And the bizarre phrase he had seen in his dream: ‘Want to see what it’s like to be the one getting put through hell?’

It had sounded like a message from someone holding a grudge against him. Immediately afterward, a strange light had flashed before his eyes.

“C-Crazy… This makes no sense. No, no way!”

Moon Seong-yoon stood before the bathroom mirror, staring at his new face. He tapped the mirror with his fingers, but the unfamiliar reflection remained unchanged. He clutched his head with both hands. His mind began to reel.

As a novel editor, he had worked on countless stories, but he had never dreamed that he would end up trapped inside one himself. No matter how carefully he examined the mirror, the body he inhabited was undeniably that of Ryu Hae-sol, the protagonist of that novel.

“I’ve entered the novel I edited? How is that even possible?”

At last, Moon Seong-yoon collapsed onto the bathroom floor. Curling in on himself, he rapidly retraced the plot of the original novel in his mind. From the events leading up to the ending, he remembered Ryu Hae-sol’s life as utterly miserable.

“No. No, absolutely not…”

He groaned. The thought that all the suffering Ryu Hae-sol had endured in the novel was now waiting for him was suffocating.

“Why me? Why should I have to go through all of that?”

Moon Seong-yoon staggered to his feet and grabbed the sink for support. His reflection was pale, and his eyes were filled with terror. He turned on the faucet and splashed cold water over his face repeatedly. The sensation of the cold water against his skin was unmistakably real.

This was no dream.
