As soon as Taehyuk sat down and picked up his chopsticks, Eunwoo’s gaze shot toward him and stuck. His eyes sparkled with curiosity, making him look like nothing more than a boy in his early twenties.

‘Is someone with such innocent eyes really trying to seduce me?’

No way.

Someone approaching with ulterior motives doesn’t have eyes that shine so beautifully.

“H-How is it?”

As Taehyuk took a bite, Eunwoo swallowed dryly and asked.

“It’s not inedible.”

“Really? That’s a relief…”

“You should try cooking at home from time to time. The more you do it, the better you’ll get.”

At Taehyuk’s comment, Eunwoo nodded vigorously.

Why was it so irritating to hear him say he’d learn more from the café owner?

“But.”

“…?”

“Why are you working part-time anyway? If there’s something you want, you can just buy it with the card I gave you.”

“Oh, right. The card.”

Letting out a short exclamation, Eunwoo suddenly disappeared into his room and came back holding the black card Taehyuk had given him two months ago.

“This is a really good card, right? That’s what the café owner said.”

“…”

“But I’m not working part-time to buy anything. So I’ll return this.”

…Return it? Without even using it?

Taehyuk raised an eyebrow and pulled out his phone.

“If you’re not earning money to buy something, are you starting a business or something? Give me your account number. I can at least fund you enough to buy a building.”

If this wasn’t about pretending to work for spending money, maybe it was the latter.

But when Taehyuk looked like he might actually transfer money on the spot, Eunwoo seemed flustered.

‘So that’s not it either?’

Then why was he working part-time at all?

Frustrated, Taehyuk furrowed his brow. Eunwoo rolled his eyes thoughtfully before answering.

“It’s for the future.”

“The future?”

“Yes. You said you’d give me a job, but honestly, other than having dinner together, I don’t really do anything. So I’m getting ready to live on my own for when you don’t need me anymore.”

As Eunwoo spoke with apparent honesty, Taehyuk’s face crumpled like wrinkled paper.

“I also feel like you’re uncomfortable having me around… If I’m only needed for dinner, I’ll become independent and just come over during that time.”

“…Why do you think I’m uncomfortable having you here?”

“Well… because you always come home really late.”

At that, Taehyuk let out a hollow laugh.

When Lee Eunwoo wasn’t living here, Taehyuk only came home about once a week. There was no point in returning if he couldn’t sleep even with his eyes closed.

But now, just seeing Eunwoo’s face helped him fall asleep. Even if he couldn’t, somehow, looking at that face—devoid of any particularly pretty features—still brought him strange comfort.

“I give you freedom and this is the kind of nonsense you say.”

“Sorry?”

Taehyuk clenched and unclenched his fists repeatedly.

If he followed his instincts, he’d break that ankle of Eunwoo’s and keep him from ever stepping foot outside again.

Just as an intense obsession, rising from somewhere deep inside Taehyuk, began to fill his gaze—

“If that’s not the case, then I’m relieved.”

“…What?”

“I honestly thought you found me incredibly annoying.”

Eunwoo’s cheeks flushed red as he fiddled with his fingers and continued.

“But I’ll keep working part-time. Meeting people outside and learning new things made me want to try even more.”

“…”

“I want to keep learning to cook… Oh, and I heard adults here go to something called university. They said you can study a lot of different things there… so I want to save up and try going.”

As Eunwoo spoke with shining eyes, Taehyuk exhaled a breath that had been stuck in his chest.

“Do whatever you want.”

“…!”

“If you want to go to university, I’ll send you. But only if you make one more promise with me.”

Rising from his seat, Taehyuk grabbed Eunwoo’s forearm.

Startled by how close his face had gotten, Eunwoo’s eyes widened. In a low growl, Taehyuk said:

“Just don’t come back after falling for someone else.”

“…What?”

“Because if you do, I don’t know what I’ll end up doing.”

With this sudden emotional shift, the fragile space between them began to tangle like a skein of thread.

Eunwoo, staring blankly at Taehyuk, slowly nodded before he even realized what he was doing.

Whether that was the right answer—or whether it would later become a painful scar in the new life of Lee Eunwoo—was something he didn’t yet know.

But one thing was certain:

In this life, he was going to be hopelessly entangled with a man named Ji Taehyuk.
