Every moment spent with the two of them had been happy.

He loved the warmth of Oscar embracing him tightly every night as he fell asleep and every morning as he opened his eyes.

He loved Ryan’s voice, the only one who comfortably called his name with familiarity.

The big hand that always reached out to hold his.

The warmth from the two of them.

Their smiling voices.

He loved it all.

So this is what it feels like to be loved.

This is what it means to be loved.

That’s what he thought.

But the more he desired, the fewer people Oscar could meet.

Perhaps he had been satisfying his own hollow emotions while stealing away Oscar’s chance at happiness.

“…Oscar’s happiness.”

Cielo turned his head to look at Oscar.

In the original story, “Cielo” left the imperial palace not long after the plot began.

He committed a misdeed and left in order to cover it up, afraid it would be exposed.

With Cielo gone, Oscar would then meet the main love interests and begin to fall in love.

If, by any chance, Cielo didn’t leave…

Then Oscar might not get to meet any of them.

So he couldn’t afford to be greedy anymore.

For the sake of the student he loved and cherished, he had to step aside.

“…When the time comes.”

The day Oscar becomes an adult.

The moment his traits awaken and the original story begins.

“I’ll speak to you again then.”

Cielo had to leave.

For Oscar’s happiness.

* * *

Ryan left the clinic with his hands stuffed in his pockets.

Cielo’s face, contorted as if he were about to cry, remained burned in his mind and wouldn’t disappear.

“…Was asking him to marry me really that bad?”

Thud.

Ryan kicked a pebble by the roadside and let out a deep sigh.

“Do you think anyone would be happy in that situation?”

A sarcastic voice came from behind.

When Ryan looked back slightly, he saw Oscar standing there with his arms crossed, clearly annoyed.

Like master, like disciple, Ryan thought.

The once small and adorable boy had long since outgrown Cielo in height.

His speech and behavior now mimicked Cielo’s so closely that it felt uncanny.

“Don’t talk like Cielo. I’m already in a bad mood,” Ryan said.

Oscar narrowed his eyes and, looking at Ryan’s slumped back, gave his shoulder a light tap.

“What.”

“Can’t you stop it?”

“Who.”

“The Crown Prince.”

Ryan looked down at Oscar.

“There is one way.”

“…What is it?”

“Actually killing him.”

At Ryan’s words, Oscar’s eyes lit up.

He looked ready to go and do it himself if only Ryan gave permission.

“I doubt the master would mourn his death anyway. Should I go take care of it?”

“If he finds out your hands are stained with blood, he’ll be devastated.”

“…What about blood on your hands, Lord Doberman?”

“Haven’t thought that far.”

“Then you do it. I’ll help from behind.”

‘This little brat.’

Does he think that just because he doesn’t hold the knife himself, his hands won’t be stained?

Ryan was about to scold him and bring him back to reality when Oscar continued.

“What should I start with? Should I track the Crown Prince’s every move and report it? Or tell you when he’s alone? …No, maybe I should figure out what food he likes. I know a bit about poisons. There’s one they use in the back alleys. I’ll get some.”

“…What?”

“Just tell me what method you’ll use. I’ll take care of the rest. If you take the fall for it, Lord Doberman, I’ll make the Crown Prince disappear.”

Oscar spoke with sparkling violet eyes.

With a face full of pure innocence, his words made Ryan chuckle bitterly.

So Cielo hated bloodstains that much — and Oscar had decided to keep him clean, at least in public.

“You’re crazy. Hey, do you really think I’d go along with that?”

“If you won’t, I’ll do it alone. I’d rather end up on the execution block than see my Master marry that crazy bastard.”

Ryan looked at Oscar in disbelief.

He was sure the kid hadn’t been this much of a lunatic three years ago.

No, not even yesterday did he seem like someone capable of this.

He must have lost it over something related to Cielo.

“Damn, Cielo… you really raised one hell of a kid.”

“I’m not his child. I’m his disciple.”

“Whatever. Do you think Cielo won’t be heartbroken if you end up on the execution block?”

Oscar smiled.

His expression said he already knew that.

Ryan let out a long sigh.

“Ugh… I hate troublesome stuff.”

But it looked like if he wanted to stop the marriage… he’d have to take back everything he once gave to Eli.

Even the imperial throne.
