Becoming the Terminally-Ill Villain Who Torments His Disciples - Chapter 40.1
“But…!”
Cielo lifted his head and looked at Oscar.
Oscar might be strong and skilled enough to defeat someone like Lord Anderson—but this was a monster. If something went wrong, he could die.
“It’s alright. I can handle it.”
At those words, Cielo swallowed hard.
Yes. Right now, he had to trust Oscar. His own body was too weak to even run properly—there was nothing else he could do.
As Cielo buried his face in Oscar’s chest and shut his eyes tightly, the sound of sparks crackling echoed somewhere nearby.
Crackle. Snap.
Boom!
The monster’s scream followed by the sound of burning filled the air.
“Foolish Cielo. If you keep resisting like that, only the people around you will get hurt.”
“Come to the Esteban mansion in the northern forest.”
Each time a monster was killed, the voices of Sol and Pielago echoed in his head.
‘…Why?’
He hadn’t seen his brothers even once since their encounter years ago.
So why was it that every time he locked eyes with a monster—or watched one die—he heard their voices?
“Voices…”
“Voices?”
Oscar asked back when he heard Cielo’s muttering.
Just then, a sharp grunt escaped Oscar’s lips.
“Guh!”
As Cielo reflexively tried to lift his head in alarm, Oscar snapped his fingers.
“Graaaaargh!”
With a sharp crackle, the monster’s scream pierced the air again.
“Don’t look up yet.”
His voice tried to sound calm.
He seemed to be hurt. If so, Cielo should be checking the wound.
But if he moved now, he might only get in Oscar’s way.
“Huff… huff…”
Warm breath fell against the top of his head.
The loud chaos had quieted. Only the acrid smell of burning flesh lingered in the air.
The voices of Sol and Piellago were gone too.
“Oscar.”
Oscar’s body trembled slightly at the sound of Cielo’s voice. He seemed to be staggering, walking somewhere.
When Cielo tried to lift his head, Oscar firmly pressed it back down.
“Not yet… just a little longer…”
“…Are you injured?”
There was no reply to the question.
Cielo listened closely as Oscar’s labored breathing gradually faded. As soon as Oscar collapsed, Cielo quickly lifted his head.
It was dark. The air had turned cold.
Snow had started falling at some point. Now, Oscar and Cielo were inside a cave, seeking shelter.
Glancing around, Cielo turned to look at Oscar.
Oscar leaned back against the cave wall, smiling calmly.
“I saw monster tracks on the way here. They looked different from the ones we faced before…”
If they returned to base camp too carelessly, they might just lure more stray monsters in.
There weren’t many people there who could properly defend themselves.
So Oscar had chosen to hide first, assess the monsters’ positions, and then decide how to move.
“It’ll take some time to locate a safe evacuation site… but Lord Doberman is there, so it should be alright.”
Oscar sounded like he was trying to reassure him. Cielo stared quietly at his face.
“Let me see your wound.”
“….”
“Oscar.”
“…If I leave it alone, it’ll heal. I’m fine.”
At that, Cielo scowled.
“I need to administer first aid. Show me, now.”
Though his tone was sharp, his voice was trembling with anxiety.
Eventually, after some hesitation, Oscar obediently held out his right arm.
A deep gash, torn by a monster’s claw, was dripping with dark red blood.
It seemed poison had begun spreading, as the skin was starting to turn black.
“Let me treat it…”
Without hesitation, Cielo grabbed his arm.
Seeing him prepare to use his power, Oscar spoke urgently.
“No, my Lord. If we wait a bit longer, Lord Doberman will come with support. We just have to hold out until then…”
“Don’t say ridiculous things and let go, Oscar. How can someone who knows how dangerous monster venom is say something like that?”
