“…Brother?”

At the unexpected word, Cielo looked back and forth between Oscar and Matthew.

Oscar had only just reached adulthood this year, while Matthew appeared several years older. And yet, brother?

As Cielo looked at them with clear confusion, Matthew continued speaking.

“After I lost in our spar, that was the agreement.”

Is that… really okay?

Cielo wore a baffled expression. Last time, he was pretty sure Noah Anderson had also called Oscar his brother…

“Is there some knightly rule where you treat whoever beats you in a duel as your elder?”

When Cielo asked, they shook their heads.

That made it even harder to understand. If it wasn’t a rule, then just what had Oscar done to earn that kind of respect?

Noah was always a bit of a free spirit, so maybe I could understand that… but even Matthew…?

Still looking bewildered, Cielo glanced around.

Everyone surrounding Oscar wore expressions of trust and loyalty.

It wasn’t the kind of love or acceptance Cielo had imagined for Oscar, but in its own way, it was clear he was being cherished.

That alone was enough.

Somehow, it brought him relief.

Knowing Oscar was surrounded by so many who cared.

As Cielo quietly smiled to himself, the room suddenly fell silent.

“Lord Pascius’s master… when he smiles… he’s really beautiful…”

At the whispered comment, Cielo tilted his head. He had definitely heard “master,” but the rest of the sentence had been so quiet he hadn’t caught it clearly.

So he tilted his head and asked again, but the man who had muttered it swallowed dryly.

Does he have a fever?

Cielo thought he saw a faint flush rise on the man’s cheeks and was about to say something—

—but then Oscar stepped in between them, blocking the space.

“…Oscar?”

“You said you were going to the Esteban mansion, right, Master?”

At the abrupt action, Cielo blinked in surprise.

But when he nodded slightly in response, Oscar slipped his fingers between Cielo’s and said,

“I want to go with you. Will you let me?”

“But…”

Cielo hesitated, glancing at the people around them.

They all seemed to be here because Oscar was at the center. If he took Oscar away now…

Noticing Cielo’s hesitation, Oscar signaled to the others.

“We have some business, so we’ll be leaving first.”

“Please take care and return safely!”

The crowd stepped back a few paces, parting to make way for Cielo.

“Shall we go, Master?”

Oscar said with a confident stride.

As Cielo followed, squeezing through the corridor formed by people on both sides, he suddenly felt his chest tighten. It wasn’t painful—but it throbbed, sharp and loud, deep in his core.

This is…

It was the same sensation he felt when he saw Ryan.

A pounding heart.

Excitement.

And a subtle nervous tension.

Why in the world was he feeling this way about Oscar?

Had he not fully given himself to Ryan, or was it simply that he couldn’t stop thinking about Oscar?

As he emerged from the crowd, Cielo had the faintest realization.

‘Ah… I was relieved.’

Until now, Cielo had assumed that once Oscar reconnected with the people from the original story, his feelings would naturally drift away.

That even though Oscar was pouring out his heart now, one day he would come to care for others instead.

But Oscar hadn’t done that.

Despite reconnecting with those people, he still held affection in his gaze for only one person: Cielo.

‘I’ve… been scared all this time.’

Scared that if he opened his heart and gave everything to Oscar, Oscar would one day see someone else first.

That he might say, “What I felt for you, Master, was just a misunderstanding.”

And so Cielo had suppressed his own feelings, pretending they didn’t exist.

But Oscar—no matter what happened—always put Cielo first.

He set aside everything else just to focus on him.

“Oscar.”

As they walked, hand in hand, Cielo quietly called his name.

Oscar turned with a smile and responded warmly, “Yes?”

“…Is it really okay to not be with your friends?”

As soon as the question left his lips, Cielo’s heart pounded.

He had a feeling he knew what Oscar’s answer would be—but he still wanted to hear it clearly, directly from him.
