What came after the sensation of floating was searing pain.

“Agh, argh, ahh, agh!”

Tumbling down the cliff, Cielo rolled across the ground. Dust rushed into his mouth, and rocks and branches scraped and jabbed at his body.

For a long while, he tumbled helplessly.

Just when he thought he might actually die from this, with a heavy thud! his body finally slammed into a tree and came to a stop.

“Haa, ugh…”

Cielo panted heavily.

Judging from the sensation of something running down his head, he must’ve hit it somewhere during the fall.

When he tried to push himself up with a groan, he cried out as he grabbed his leg. He couldn’t move it at all.

‘Is it broken?’

But he had to move.

If he stayed here any longer, Pielago, still up there, might come down and do who knows what.

Clenching his teeth and forcing himself upright, Cielo suddenly realized something was holding his waist.

“Oscar…?”

He gently pried off the arm wrapped around him. The arm, always so strong and firm, now hung limp.

“Oscar!”

He shook him and called his name, but no response came from Oscar’s lips.

Forcing down the trembling in his heart, Cielo took a deep breath.

“It’s okay. It’s going to be okay.”

He could heal him. Even if Oscar had lost consciousness, as long as he was still alive, Cielo could bring him back completely.

Swallowing dryly, Cielo gripped Oscar’s arm and tightly closed his eyes.

…But nothing happened.

That was strange.

This method had always worked to heal someone. Yet he felt no sensation of power gathering at his fingertips, no sense of energy leaving his body.

In fact, it felt like something was blocking him entirely.

As if powers couldn’t be used in this place.

“No…”

Cielo muttered, panic rising as he began checking Oscar’s condition. From the way he’d rolled down the cliff, there were wounds all over him. Blood seeped from various cuts.

“Haah…”

Cielo wiped his face with both hands and gently laid Oscar on his back. At least there were no signs of internal injuries and no severe swelling or fluid buildup in the abdomen.

That was some relief.

But he couldn’t afford to relax.

Oscar had suffered serious trauma. Symptoms could appear at any moment.

‘I have to get out of here first.’

He had to escape and treat Oscar properly.

Whether he confronted Pielago first or met with the Duke of Esteban to talk—it could all wait until after Oscar was safe.

Taking a deep breath, Cielo looked up and spoke to the air.

“Ryan.”

He still remembered the promise. Ryan had said that wherever he was, he would come if his name was called. That he’d left a mark again, just in case, and told Cielo to call him in danger.

He had definitely said that.

“…Ryan.”

But—

“Ryan!”

No matter how many times he called, no reply came.

It was as if his voice couldn’t reach him.

“Why…?”

Could it be connected to the way his healing ability hadn’t activated earlier?

His heart pounded with dread.

“Ryan. Please, please…”

Let him hear this voice.

Let him answer.

But no miracle came.

“Why…?”

He couldn’t heal Oscar.

He couldn’t even call for Ryan.

What had Pielago done?

Or… was it something about this forest? Something that interfered with powers?

Then what was he supposed to do now?

“…Don’t fall apart.”

Muttering to himself, Cielo braced against a tree and stood up.

He gathered a few branches from nearby and made a splint, tearing fabric from his clothes to bind it tightly around his broken leg.

Whatever happened to the leg didn’t matter right now.

He had to get out of here. Immediately.

If Pielago realized Cielo had survived, he would surely attack again using underhanded tricks if he had to.

Even now, the howls of wild animals were beginning to echo through the forest.

Both Oscar and Cielo were bleeding.

To sit still here, reeking of blood, would be far too dangerous.
