Becoming the Terminally-Ill Villain Who Torments His Disciples - Chapter 73.2
He still couldn’t guess what Cielo had been thinking when he said not to kill Sol. After all, Cielo had his childhood ruined by the twins, and if the novel’s plot had gone as written, he would’ve been killed by them too.
Even so, Cielo had not wanted the twins to die.
“It was nothing more than how I felt at that moment. That’s why I spared you.”
“…”
“But I don’t know what I’ll do next time. If you repeat the same actions, and I find myself with the same chance again… I might make a different choice then.”
Even if the same voice of Cielo echoed in his mind, maybe next time, he’d be firm and say they didn’t deserve another chance.
Sol lowered his head and clenched his fist. He gripped it so tightly the back of his hand had gone completely pale.
As Cielo silently watched, he asked,
“Do you feel any remorse?”
“…Feelings like that are only possible for people who have some excuse to make.”
At Pielago’s muttered response, Sol nodded and continued,
“If you hadn’t stopped us, we never would’ve. So how could we even say ‘sorry’ now?”
Even if they had felt guilt, it was clear they couldn’t bring themselves to say such words aloud. Sol and Pielago spoke more carefully than ever before.
“If I told you to feel that remorse, would you do it then?”
“…What?”
“If I told you to spend a very long time feeling sorry, and burdened by guilt… would you struggle and suffer just to be forgiven?”
At that, Sol and Pielago nodded without hesitation.
Cielo took a deep breath and said,
“I’m still afraid of you. Even more so because I know that if others hadn’t stepped in, I would’ve died at your hands without being able to resist.”
“…”
“But I’ll try to overcome it. I’ll try believing in your answer—that you’ll carry that guilt and remorse.”
He hoped they would live with those feelings for a long time.
Maybe that’s what Cielo had wanted all along.
An apology for tormenting his blood-related younger brother after being deceived by Typhon. And true, heartfelt reflection for that sin.
This was the final chance Cielo was giving them.
‘If those two betray us again, then even if I hear that voice again, I won’t listen to it.’
He was following the will of the real Cielo—but only because he was the one inhabiting this body.
“…You’ll believe us?”
“…?”
“You’re going to believe in us?”
Pielago looked at Cielo with disbelief in his eyes.
“Yes. But it won’t be an easy path. Not for me, and not for either of you.”
It hadn’t only been the real Cielo who was hurt by the twins. Even after Lee Eunwoo took over this body, the abuse from the twins had continued.
Surely, facing them would still be difficult. At times, the memories might return in dreams and torment him again.
But he believed things could change. Just like Lee Eunwoo had changed after becoming Cielo, maybe the Esteban twins, now free from Typhon’s grip, could begin to see the world differently too.
“…I don’t want to seem like someone doing something fake just to be forgiven.”
“…”
“So even if you never forgive us, that’s fine. But still… I want to do something that helps you, because you said you’d try to believe in us.”
At Pielago’s words, Sol nodded firmly and added,
“The Forbidden Book. I still have it. If we dig deeper, we might be able to find a way to break free from the sacrificial fate.”
At their words, Cielo’s eyes widened in surprise.
Truthfully, he had expected to hear something mocking instead. The Esteban twins had never once apologized for anything in their lives.
They were people who didn’t even have a concept of remorse.
And yet now, those very same people—
“…It might sound shameless, but… can you give us this chance?”
Those same people, who had once shown no guilt at all—
Now looked at Cielo with eyes full of resolve, saying they would do everything they could to help him.
As if they had finally found salvation.
