From beginning to end, everything was regret.

“It’s not the same.”

“…Sorry?”

“How could the future I was meant to have—dying alone, unloved—be the same as one where I close my eyes surrounded by the blessings of many?”

The glowing figure spoke gently as it circled around Cielo.

“Do you want to live?”

“…”

“Do you want to stay by their side—continue being with them?”

At that question, Cielo squeezed his eyes shut. He couldn’t hold back the emotions rising within him, and tears spilled uncontrollably.

“…Yes.”

He didn’t want to die.

He wanted to stay by their side, feel happiness, and remain with them for a long time. He wanted to live each and every moment by their side—and when the time came to die, he hoped they could close their eyes together on the same day.

That was how precious Ryan and Oscar were to him.

“Then go. Go and show them everything you truly feel in your heart.”

“…What?”

“So that when the real moment of death comes, you won’t be left with regrets like now.”

Just as Cielo raised his head in confusion, the glowing figure began to shine more brightly.

“You won’t be able to last long against demons on your own… but if you’re with those helping you, you’ll be able to survive to the end.”

“…What… do you mean?”

“Change the ending of the ‘Cielo’ you read about.”

“…”

“That’s something only you can do. I’m not as strong as you are.”

Cielo had struggled fiercely against the pain that suddenly flooded in. He had cried out over and over—not wanting to die, or begging to be killed because it hurt too much. But still, he fought desperately to survive.

The real “Cielo” hadn’t had that strength.

If it had been him, he would’ve succumbed to the pain and ended his life.

After a moment of silence, the glowing figure took a deep breath and said:

“From now on, you are the real Cielo.”

“Th-then… what about you?”

If Cielo was now the true Cielo, what would happen to the one who remained just a glowing soul?

At Cielo’s worried expression, the glow pulsed larger for a moment, then returned to its original form.

“I… well. Since you’ve taken over my body, I thought I’d go take over the body of that person called Lee Eunwoo.”

“…”

“I actually prefer that face anyway.”

Before Cielo could even respond to that absurd statement, the glowing figure gave him a strong push from behind. Startled, Cielo reached out, as if he still had more to say.

“Take good care of our brothers. They may be rough around the edges, but they’re not so different from us.”

“Wait, I still have things to—!”

“Be happy. Your happiness will be my happiness.”

Before Cielo could say anything more, his body began to rise, becoming more and more translucent.

Realizing their time was almost up, Cielo cried out toward the glowing figure:

“T-thank you! And you too… you have to be happy too!”

He didn’t know what the future would bring, but he hoped—truly hoped—that the real Cielo, cast out of his own body and now just a soul, could somehow find happiness.

“…Goodbye, Cielo.”

From the blue light came the sound of a small, faint laugh. And with that, Cielo’s figure disappeared completely.

Back in the dark space.

The once-bright blue glow let out a long breath.

He had said he would take over Lee Eunwoo’s body, but the truth was—that was impossible.

From the fragments of memories that had remained in his body, he had seen that Lee Eunwoo’s body was completely broken, beyond any hope of survival.

At the very end of those fading memories, he had even seen the truck that hit Lee Eunwoo fleeing the scene. If that was the case… then yes… Lee Eunwoo had certainly died.

“…I never thought I’d come to long for life.”

This too was likely one of the possibilities the Author had shown him.

“If I were ever given a second chance… then maybe…”

Maybe next time, he would fight harder to live. Instead of resenting or giving up on life, if he looked at the world differently, maybe something would change.

“It will change.”

The Author had already shown him that.

“So find happiness in that body of yours.”

Because the Author had shown that a different kind of life was possible.

“I’ll repay that grace.”

Taking a deep breath, the glowing soul looked up—beyond the sky. He saw the demon reaching out its hand to devour the soul of the sacrifice.

“I’m the one you’ll be taking.”

The softly spoken words began to glow even more brightly.

“So leave that person alone, just for now.”

The light, now so brilliant that it cast no shadows in the blackness, soon disappeared completely.
