There wasn’t a single thing wrong with what he said. This world wasn’t as medically advanced as the era in which Lee Eunwoo had lived. That meant there were likely many who died during childbirth.

‘Even if one has healing abilities, they can’t heal their own body.’

So Damon’s worry was completely reasonable, even natural.

Even Cielo, hearing those words, found it difficult to say something like “I can give birth safely.”

Just going through a heat cycle left him breathless—how could someone like that carry a child?

“……”

Of course, part of him wanted to open the door to that room right now. To declare that he was healthy enough in both body and mind to have a child. That there was no need to worry.

But now wasn’t the time to speak so boldly. He was still a sacrifice prepared for a demon summoning ritual, in a situation where anything could happen at any moment.

‘I just wanted to stay by Ryan’s side…’

Were ideals and reality truly so different? He only wanted to remain close, and yet even that wasn’t allowed?

As those gloomy thoughts surged in, the sound of Ryan yelling at Damon suddenly stopped.

Step, step.

Footsteps from inside grew closer.

Just as Cielo lifted his head to leave, unfortunately, the door opened first.

“Ah…”

How did he know?

Surprised, Cielo took a step back. Ryan came over and pulled him tightly into an embrace.

“Nothing has been decided yet, Cielo.”

“……”

“So don’t be sad, okay?”

Ryan’s restrained voice made it sound as if he knew exactly how Cielo felt, even without him saying a word.

Somehow, hearing his words only made it all the more heartbreaking.

The emotions welling up from deep inside hurt so much, it felt painful just to breathe.

So Cielo quietly lowered his gaze.

“I’m fine.”

“……”

“His Grace wasn’t wrong, after all.”

He continued calmly, but a sharp pang lingered somewhere in his chest.

And it didn’t feel like that pain belonged to him alone.

It was as if Ryan’s sorrow had slipped into his chest as well.

“…Haa.”

Watching Ryan’s face twist in anguish, Damon swept back his black hair as he stepped forward.

Cielo saw the beast-like glint in his red eyes and gave a slight shiver, then bowed in greeting.

“…I’ve been staying in the mansion for some time now, but this is my first formal greeting. I am Cielo, the youngest of the Esteban family.”

After collecting his emotions and speaking calmly, Damon silently stared at his face.

When he gave no reply, Ryan’s face twisted in frustration. As if angry, his pheromones began to ripple through the air, and Cielo quickly grabbed his wrist.

At that, Ryan immediately reined in his scent and turned to check on Cielo’s expression.

“…Hah.”

Damon looked between the two with an incredulous expression. Then, narrowing his eyes, he said,

“I never imagined an Esteban would ever step foot in the Doberman estate. Living long enough does let you see all kinds of things.”

“……”

“Stay for a while, then leave.”

With that, Damon turned his body, as if he had nothing more to say.

“Your Grace.”

But Cielo called out to him.

As Damon turned his head slightly and their eyes met, Cielo took a deep breath and spoke.

“I know I fall short in many ways.”

“……”

“Even so, I want Ryan.”

Though his words were brief, they were filled with sincerity. Damon, who had been about to leave, turned back and stepped up to Cielo again.

“Do you love my son?”

More than Cielo, it was Ryan who seemed flustered by the question. He widened his eyes, and just as he was about to object to the strange inquiry, Cielo answered.

“Yes. I love him.”

There was not a trace of hesitation on his honest face.

Seeing that, Damon let out a hollow laugh.

“So, you love him…”

“……”

“Then you must also know that if you love someone, you have to be willing to let them go.”
