The demon bent down to sniff at him, murmuring repeatedly how strange it was as he grabbed Cielo’s chin and turned his face side to side.

‘A blue soul?’

There was only one thing that came to mind when it came to a blue-colored soul—the true soul of “Cielo” that had appeared in his unconscious mind. That soul had shone with a radiant blue light.

Could it be that his soul had been separated from his body and captured by this demon? And that was why the demon had been summoned?

As Cielo’s face turned pale, the demon continued speaking.

“In this state, it’s hard to call it a proper contract. I went through all that effort to summon that woman’s soul for nothing.”

“That woman…?”

“Are you curious?”

When Cielo asked with a puzzled expression, the demon beckoned with his finger, as if telling him to follow.

But since Cielo remained in place, still gripping the twins’ arms tightly, the demon swept back his hair with a frustrated look.

“Come. I won’t lay a hand on them.”

“……”

“My interest is in you right now. You’re the first human who isn’t affected by my aura.”

As if saying he was being gracious, the demon casually turned and walked toward the dining hall entrance.

Gulp.

Swallowing dryly, Cielo slowly released his grip on the twins. The demon’s words didn’t seem to be a lie. Even after letting go of their arms, the twins didn’t move. They just stood there, blankly staring at empty space, muttering incomprehensible words.

“Don’t keep me waiting. Come quickly.”

At the demon’s urging tone, Cielo flinched and approached him with his sword tightly in his arms. The demon then lifted the curtain covering the entrance to the dining hall and revealed the inside.

“What… is this…?”

The moment he looked straight ahead, Cielo’s face twisted in horror.

The thing that had once been “Aire,” lying on the bed, was now moving grotesquely through the dining hall.

Click, clack, crack.

Even the bones, now exposed through decaying flesh, were clacking together and making eerie noises.

“Si… lo…”

“……”

“…el… lo.”

The sound slipping between her gaping jawbone could hardly even be called a proper voice.

“Was this… Father’s, Typhon’s wish?”

“Hmm?”

“I heard that if you summon a demon, it grants one wish. But to bring Mother back in such a state… like this…”

Cielo’s lips trembled as he struggled to speak through the shock, and the demon nodded before closing the door to the dining hall.

“That’s right.”

“……”

“I warned him. That it would be impossible to restore her in complete form, that he wouldn’t be able to reclaim the happiness he once had.”

But Typhon had shouted, demanding that Aire be brought back no matter what.

When told that pulling the soul of the dead from beyond was too difficult, he even offered up his own soul in exchange.

“To go that far…”

Did he ask to bring her back, knowing she would return in that condition? If not, would he now claim he was tricked by the demon and cry out in resentment?

Either way, his actions could not be justified.

Countless people had died due to the monsters summoned in the process of calling the demon. And if the demon could not be sent back to the demon realm…

Gulp.

Cielo swallowed again.

As fear overwhelmed him and his eyes filled with terror, he looked up. The demon bared his teeth in a grin and said,

“Don’t look at me like that. It makes me want to torment you.”

“……”

“Kidding. What a cute face you make.”

The demon laughed, lightly tapped the bridge of Cielo’s nose, and backed away.

Wearing a bored expression, he floated sideways in midair and spoke.

“If the contract had been executed properly, I could’ve returned peacefully. But things got tangled in too many ways…”

The demon stroked his chin with a troubled look.

He could claim the body that had been offered as a sacrifice—Cielo’s physical form—but the soul inside was not part of the contract and therefore could not be taken.

However, if the demon tampered with the body, the soul inside would inevitably be affected as well.

In other words, for the demon to take Cielo, Cielo would have to willingly offer up his soul.
