“Oh, what’s the point of talking about things like that? Neither you nor I will probably ever even get close to an airport in our lifetime.”

“Haha, hahaha! That’s true. But still, you never know what could happen in life!”

And the next day, his father disappeared.

He vanished just like that, leaving behind only one memory that would remain warmly in ‘Lee Eunwoo’s’ life for the rest of his days.

Although a death report was filed, it was still unclear whether he had truly died or was still alive somewhere.

The only thing that remained in both memory and heart was this: not once, until the day ‘Lee Eunwoo’ died, did he ever try to make contact again.

At first, Eunwoo resented him.

He blamed his father for creating a family he couldn’t take responsibility for and hated his own circumstances of being left behind and mistreated.

But after ten years of searching for a reason for his father’s disappearance and harboring that hatred, he came to a conclusion.

He decided to think of his father as a good man.

Because resentment and hatred were, in the end, exhausting emotions.

Rather than grieving over and resenting the life he had been given… he told himself his father had simply died in an unfortunate accident.

From that point on, ‘Lee Eunwoo’ began painting over his father in his imagination, like self-hypnosis.

In truth, his father had been a terrible man.

He would throw things when he got angry, and he easily lashed out with his fists at those closest to him.

He had no social skills, often picking fights with strangers just for looking at him, and he prioritized people outside the home more than his own family.

So he tried reframing him.

He imagined his father as someone who calmly talked things out even when upset.

As someone so kind he couldn’t even kill an ant, and gentle enough to strike up conversation even with strangers.

After painting over him like that, it became easier to believe that he wasn’t a son who abandoned a trash father—

but rather, someone who had simply been abandoned because he was worth discarding.

And just like that, he kept painting over his life with lies born from imagination, trying to live as if he were just a slightly better person than he was.

That was all there was to Lee Eunwoo’s life.

“I really wanted to live.”

He didn’t want to become someone who withered away, lamenting his own wretched life.

Rather than envying those who were loved, even if it meant ignoring the misfortunes handed to him, he just wanted to live a slightly better life.

“What kind of lunatic am I looking at? You mean you rewrote your own memories with delusions?”

The demon laughed under his breath as if he truly couldn’t believe someone would be capable of doing such a thing.

“Yes. And that’s why I really love the life I have now, one where I no longer have to paint it over with delusions.”

The real ‘Cielo’ had given him this body. And in this body, he had formed new relationships and a new life of his own.

Being reincarnated into a character from a book written by someone else might just be a prank played by a god so high above it was hard to fathom. It might even vanish in the blink of an eye like a midsummer night’s dream.

But still.

Even so—

“No matter what happens, I don’t want to give up this life.”

A world where it was okay to live for himself. A place where there were people who liked him even without delusions covering up his memories—he loved it here.

“So please… give up this body and step aside.”

“……”

“You got what you wanted, didn’t you? I stabbed the body of yours that had absorbed my ‘father’s’ soul.”

Cielo smiled as if to say, Isn’t that the right answer? The demon let out a hollow laugh.

“…How did you figure it out?”

“This world was created based on my memories, wasn’t it? That means the one I needed to kill wasn’t the real thing, but the father I imagined. That’s how I knew everything you said to me in this place was a lie.”

After all, you can’t kill something that doesn’t even exist.

From the beginning, the demon had told Cielo that he needed to kill ‘Typhon,’ the one bound to him by contract.

He even claimed that Typhon had given up his soul in order to bring Aire back to life.

In other words, it meant the demon had Typhon’s soul.

So to kill Typhon, he had to stab this demon.

“Hahaha! Yeah, that’s right. That’s the answer!”
