‘Then maybe… I could at least help heal some of the wounds I caused.’

That foolish thought was the only thing Oscar continued to dwell on—something he would come to regret later.

Afterward, Cielo was sent to the barony by order of the Emperor.

“I’ll go with him.”

Oscar, who had heard the news earlier than anyone else, went directly to see the Emperor.

“Hmm… Is it really necessary for both of you to go?”

“I heard the barony has not yet been fully cleared of monsters. Even if this is meant to be a punishment, I cannot let Master go alone.”

Faced with Oscar’s resolute words, the Emperor nodded as if he had expected this.

That day, after finishing the audience and stepping outside, Oscar realized that none of what he had said or done felt out of place. It was as if he had spoken like this often before.

‘If we go together, he won’t be able to avoid me anymore.’

At some point, Cielo had begun to avoid Oscar.

As if he no longer wanted to be hurt by Oscar’s inability to remember him. And yet, whenever Oscar walked nearby, those blue eyes would trail after him until the very end before vanishing.

The day they rode the carriage together—

Oscar waited for Cielo to speak first.

Would he bring up the moment at the library, when Oscar gave him his coat?

If not that, then maybe ask how he had been all this time?

But contrary to Oscar’s expectations, Cielo kept his gaze fixed on the floor the entire time after the carriage set off.

He bit his lips nervously, as if being cautious of something. And then he even shrank into himself—as though afraid they might accidentally touch.

Was he feeling uncomfortable?

‘…How annoying.’

Before they departed, he had been smiling brightly while talking to Ryan. Yet the moment Oscar sat in front of him, he acted uneasy. That alone soured Oscar’s mood.

So he spoke without thinking.

“Try to get some rest. We’ve still got a long way to go.”

He wished their conversation would continue from there. But what came back was a reply he hadn’t expected in the slightest.

“…Mind your tone, Count. I am no longer part of the Ducal House.”

Oscar was at a loss for words.

‘He’s my disciple.’

‘We were together since we were young.’

So why was he drawing such a hard line now?

‘Wasn’t he the one who wanted me to regain my memory? Or… could it be the opposite?’

Did he actually not want Oscar to remember?

That thought led to a sudden realization—about the rumors spreading among people regarding Ryan and Cielo’s marriage.

‘…No way.’

Was it because the two of them were to marry, that Cielo hoped the one clinging like an unwanted obstacle—Oscar—would disappear?

So Oscar deliberately said something to sting.

But what came back was something he could never have anticipated.

“That marriage… included you too.”

Cielo muttered the words under his breath and turned his head, avoiding Oscar’s gaze.

The sight of him looking like he was about to cry tore at Oscar’s chest.

‘This… wasn’t what I wanted.’

But no more words were exchanged between them.

Cielo, as if trying to contain his emotions, never spoke to Oscar again. And Oscar, afraid he might say something wrong again, couldn’t bring himself to speak either.

‘Even I… was going to marry him?’

He had never heard anything about that until now. People had only guessed that Oscar and Cielo might’ve been lovers. No one had ever clearly said what kind of relationship they had—not even Cielo.

And just when that confusion had been growing, Oscar heard the news of Ryan and Cielo’s marriage.

“You damned mutt.”

Ryan.

That bastard had definitely kept it from him on purpose. If he had wanted to, he could’ve said something any time.

Clenching his teeth, Oscar vowed to at least earn some points with Cielo while they were in the barony.

Because everything he had said or done until now had only hurt him—he didn’t want to do that anymore.

However, from the moment they arrived at the barony, Cielo buried himself in work.

So much so that he didn’t even come to see Oscar once during the entire two weeks.
