But the First Princess had known what lay in the First Prince’s heart better than anyone since childhood. She gave a hollow laugh.

“There is no one in the Empire who does not know your leg troubles you. Do you truly believe he would not know? Ha, that is what makes no sense. His eyes are hardly ornaments.”

“…I see. Since I rarely leave the palace, I assumed he would know nothing about me… My thinking was shallow.”

“How could he not know? He is not deaf. Hmph.”

“It was my mistake.”

“If you understand, know your place from now on. I cannot allow myself to be criticized because of you, can I?”

Felix shrugged at the fierce rebuke and smiled bitterly.

“Yes. I understand you perfectly, Sister. I shall be careful from now on.”

The First Princess watched him nod meekly, then abruptly turned her head away as though she no longer wished to speak. Silence filled the office for a moment.

Felix lowered his head, bit his lip, and clenched a fist. His grip was so tight that it cut off his circulation, leaving his hand deathly white

“I told you there is no need to remain with me. You may go now.”

“No, Vice Commander. I will wait until I see you depart.”

“I truly am fine, so return now.”

The young attendant hesitated for some time at Enoch’s firm tone, then nodded in understanding and turned away. For someone who had claimed he would watch Enoch leave, his steps were remarkably quick.

Seeing the attendant hurry away, round the corner, and vanish in an instant, Enoch swallowed a small laugh.

It was almost as though the young man wanted nothing more than to stop sharing the same space with him. Enoch was not some kind of disease.

The change in attitude was so stark that it was almost absurd.

But that was all. Enoch soon shook his head and turned. What fault did those beneath her have? In the end, he could only grumble inwardly.

Enoch looked once at the clear sky with the sun shining brightly. Seeing the wide-open heavens seemed to ease the suffocating tightness in his chest.

‘She was no easy opponent after all…’

Outwardly, the First Princess looked like an elegant and noble lady, but she gave the impression that her insides were filled with a pitch-black mass.

To make him feel that way after exchanging only a few words, she truly was not someone to take lightly. Moreover, she seemed almost certainly connected to the attempted assassination of the Crown Prince.

That wasn’t all. The way she spoke about the wound on his forehead had been somewhat frightening too.

Enoch had indeed been told that the wound would heal within two months if he applied the medicine properly. But only the family physician, Enoch, and his family knew that.

Naturally, neither the physician nor his relatives could have had contact with the First Princess. That meant there was only one place from which she could have obtained the information…

‘…Neyra Hasgen. The two of them are closely connected after all.’

Frowning, Enoch kicked a stone on the ground with the toe of his shoe. In contrast to his troubled heart, it rolled with a cheerful clatter.

‘Moreover… I never expected the First Prince to disguise himself as an attendant.’

In truth, Enoch hadn’t been entirely certain. But the well-cared-for hands he glimpsed, and the way palace servants passing them occasionally flinched and looked back and forth between the man’s face and clothes, had seemed extremely suspicious and deepened his doubts.

Of course, the most decisive clue had been his leg. His left foot dragged slightly as he walked. From that, Enoch knew he was not an attendant but Felix, the First Prince.
