Jaeyi swallowed as he watched the dishes being brought out by the man the girl had identified in a whisper as the chef.
One luxurious, appetizing dish after another appeared before his eyes, making him feel almost dizzy. He was the sort who would never pick up his utensils before his elders began eating, yet even he could barely endure it.
As Jaeyi sat there swallowing again and again, the middle-aged man among the three watching him fondly, in other words, this body’s father, took his wife’s plate first and cut her steak into even pieces.
After stealing a glance at him, Jaeyi suddenly stared dejectedly at the pale, empty soup set before him. To have so much food in front of him and be allowed to eat only this one thing.
As he gazed at the soup, he suddenly felt a prickling sensation on his cheek. When he turned, the girl was staring at him.
She blinked her adorable eyes. The sudden stare left him puzzled. What was wrong?
“Brother?”
The girl called to Jaeyi and glanced sidelong at the steak in front of her.
“Um… Would you like me to cut that for you?”
Bewildered, Jaeyi pointed at the steak before her.
“The meat?”
“No, well. If you’re fine, then never mind…”
“Yes! Cut it for me!”
“…Alright.”
Was that not what she meant? Embarrassment washed over him. As he smiled awkwardly and cleared his throat, the girl’s eyes lit up and she held out her plate. Jaeyi carefully accepted it.
He frowned with concentration, working carefully to cut the pieces as evenly as he could, when laughter suddenly came from beside him. His face felt a little hot. Flushing, Jaeyi moved the knife more quickly.
In the end, his haste with the knife left a few pieces uneven, but the girl still looked quite pleased. With a relieved sigh, Jaeyi spooned up some soup and put it in his mouth.
Though there was nothing in the soup, it tasted decent enough and filled his empty stomach. As Jaeyi nodded in satisfaction, the man seated opposite him spoke.
“Enoch, eat slowly. You have had nothing all this time, so even soup may upset your stomach.”
He was looking at Jaeyi with eyes full of concern. Jaeyi slowly swallowed what was in his mouth and nodded.
“Yes.”
…Wait, Enoch?
Now that he thought about it, the name sounded strangely familiar. Perhaps his mind had begun working again now that his stomach was full.
Something soon flashed through his thoughts. Anxiety swept over him at once.
Jaeyi denied the thought, but raised his head just in case. If possible, he wanted firmer confirmation that his guess was wrong.
He swallowed dryly and asked.
“Is this, by any chance… the ducal house of Laochenes?”
At his question, all three stopped moving.
“Enoch?”
“What did you say?”
Seeing all three lift their heads in surprise, Jaeyi assumed he had indeed been mistaken. He breathed a small sigh of relief.
Of course. There was no way. Something like that couldn’t happen in the first place.
Naturally. This couldn’t possibly be the world inside a book. It was far too absurd.
But then the girl beamed at Jaeyi and clapped her hands with delight.
“That’s right! What a relief! Brother, your memory must be fine! The priest said your memory might have been affected and you might not remember us.”
…What did that mean? Jaeyi asked with his mouth hanging open.
“…What?”
“What do you mean?”
“No… Before that. You said I was right? What was I right about?”
“What else? Father is the Duke of Laochenes.”
Horrified, Jaeyi looked from one of them to another. That meant the owner of this body was Enoch Laochenes!
At the innocent girl’s words, Jaeyi dropped the spoon he was holding.
