As he walked through the house, Jaeyi learned that he, or rather, the owner of this body, had fallen from a horse and remained unconscious for an entire day. He descended a spiral staircase and stared openmouthed at the vast hall and glittering chandelier.

‘What kind of place is this?’

“Brother?”

“Huh? Oh.”

“Hurry.”

Jaeyi let the girl pull him along without protest. They soon stopped before a pair of enormous double doors.

“Mother, Father! I’m here! I brought Brother too! …Huh? They’re not here?”

The room he entered after the girl was even more splendid than the bedroom he had just left. It appeared to be a dining room. The girl pointed to the place of honor on the right and personally pulled out the chair.

“Sit here, Brother.”

“…Oh. Alright.”

Keeping a firm hold on Jaeyi’s arm, the girl seated him in the chair. Jaeyi nodded to her and looked around once more.

Everything was far too vivid to be a dream.

Then the door opened, and two people entered the dining room.

Only then did the girl, who had been sitting beside Jaeyi and chattering without pause, release his hand. She approached the two people, who appeared to be husband and wife.

The arm she had held felt a little warm. Jaeyi rose while rubbing it and looked at the unfamiliar pair, doing his best to seem unconcerned.

Feigning nonchalance, Jaeyi studied them carefully. The middle-aged man, who appeared to be the husband, had thick eyebrows and an angular face. A faint smile rested on lips that otherwise looked stern.

The woman holding the girl’s hand and meeting her eyes affectionately was a striking beauty at a glance. Her gaze soon came to rest on Jaeyi.

“Mother, Father! Look at Brother. He’s completely better. That priest truly is amazing!”

‘A priest? The kind that exists in games and novels?’

Jaeyi stared for a moment at the girl as she spoke excitedly, then looked away. The couple’s faces were full of emotion.

A sharp pang suddenly passed through Jaeyi’s chest. The sensation was too distinct, too vivid to be his imagination.

Only then did Jaeyi realize he could no longer deny reality. One couldn’t feel pain in a dream, so this was not a dream. This was truly real.

Of course, he still had no proper grasp of the situation. It would be better to say as little as possible.

As Jaeyi reached that decision, the woman the girl had called Mother quickly approached him while he glanced up to observe the pair.

She walked precariously on high heels peeking from beneath her dress, looking as though she might topple sideways at any moment. A little worried, Jaeyi hastily reached out and caught her arm when she drew near.

The arm in his grasp was terribly slender. Jaeyi examined her face without thinking, then stiffened with a start. She was crying as she looked at him.

Surprised by the sudden turn, Jaeyi’s eyes widened. Her abrupt tears left him thoroughly flustered.

“Um… Well, I mean…”

‘Why all of a sudden?’

For what reason? As Jaeyi looked at the woman in agitation, she took out a handkerchief and wiped away her tears. Then she regarded him with a composed expression.

“Enoch! Are you alright?”

Enoch? Jaeyi realized that must be the name of this body. Though flustered, he nodded almost without thinking.

“Pardon? Me? Ah, yes. I suppose I’m alright for now…”

“Oh! Dear Heavenly God, Helios, thank you so much!”

Helios? Jaeyi frowned at her invocation of a god. Why was she suddenly going on about a god?

While Jaeyi was lost in thought, the middle-aged man beside the girl approached him as well. He drew the woman Jaeyi was supporting into his arms, soothed her, and looked at Jaeyi.

He had seemed somewhat brusque at first, but the expression with which he regarded Jaeyi was warm. His face closely resembled that of the body’s owner in the mirror.

Come to think of it, the girl had called them his parents. The middle-aged man stared at Jaeyi for a long while.

Jaeyi, who had been meeting his gaze blankly, suddenly stiffened. He had tensed at the thought that the man might be looking at him suspiciously.

Perhaps the woman beside him found Jaeyi’s awkward stance pitiable, for she gently tugged the man’s arm and whispered, “Darling.”

As if coming to his senses at her gesture, the man eased away from her embrace and stepped toward Jaeyi again. Jaeyi tried to retreat in alarm, but the man was faster.

‘Wh-what is he doing!’

He opened both arms and carefully embraced Jaeyi. Jaeyi flinched and froze with his mouth open at the unexpected act. The man raised a hand and patted his rigid back.

“I am so relieved that you are safe. Enoch, my son.”

“……”

“Your father is truly overjoyed.”

At the affection in his voice, Jaeyi felt the strength leave his body. The man reminded him of the last image of his own father, embracing him long ago as he entrusted him to his paternal grandmother.

Perhaps that was why Jaeyi’s eyes had grown red before he knew it. The woman and the young girl watched the two of them, laughing and crying.
