His subtly excited face looked as if a call he had been waiting for had arrived.

Lately, it seemed like he was busily going around somewhere too.

“Is something up?”

“There is, something like that. I’ll tell you later when it’s confirmed. If Seojun comes, start eating first.”

“Hey, hey, you have to tell me what it is…”

Ha-on tried to stop him, but Kim Hyeongyu hurriedly stood up and went outside the restaurant as if he couldn’t hear.

“What gives. This feels like deja vu…”

It reminded him of when he stood up saying he was going to buy coffee at the cafe. But back then and now are different, aren’t they?

“There’s nothing to do a surprise for anymore, so why are you going?”

However, instead of catching Kim Hyeongyu who had already left, he idly looked at the menu.

Right then, Ha-on’s phone rang with a long vibration. Thinking it would be Kim Hyeongyu or Cha Seojun, Ha-on looked at the name on the screen without much thought, swallowed a sigh first, and answered the call.

“Yes, Mom.”

[Have you eaten?]

“I’m about to. Why?”

[How is school?]

“Same as usual. Busy and hectic.”

Ha-on retorted bluntly.

[Whenever it’s tough, quit and come home. You remember your aunt said there’s a spot, right?]

At those words, Ha-on flared up before realizing the caller was his mother and suppressed his voice.

“Why should I quit a school I’m attending just fine? And even if Aunt says there’s a spot, how can I enter a place like that with nothing to my name?”

He cut her off saying it made no sense, but he couldn’t cut off the melancholy settling in his chest.

[What Mom means is, how great would it be if you worked at the kindergarten your aunt runs and then took it over? You’re good at that kind of thing.]

At that, Ha-on furrowed his eyes.

It was a school and department he had dreamed of for a long time and entered after fierce preparation. Even while knowing that he was attending diligently after getting in here, she always made such regret-filled remarks every now and then.

Telling him to change his career path even now. When he only had his graduation year left.

Ha-on didn’t want to listen any further.

[Your aunt is in Seoul too, so whenever you have time, drop by once. Or do you want to go with me? I said I was going to see her once anyway.]

His mother’s voice was light, but Ha-on’s heart tossed and turned.

“I’m not going. And stop saying things like that too.”

[It’s because graduation is right around the corner. They say having learned art helps too. If you can’t get a job this time, let’s unconditionally go to the kindergarten. Got it?]

Ha-on stared blankly at the words instant tteokbokki written on the menu and felt his nape grow stiff for no reason.

“I’m hanging up.”

[Alright. Let’s hang up.]

When the call ended, the noise of the restaurant grew vivid once again. Even after putting down his phone, Ha-on remained still.

The phone rang again. Wondering if it was his mother this time too, he scowled before seeing it was another person and pressed the call button.

“Yeah, Seojun-ah. Are you almost here?”

[…Hyung. The thing is…]

At the somewhat awkward voice, Ha-on tilted his head.

“Is something wrong?”

[Mmm… Yes. An elder in the family came, so… it’s a bit hard to leave right now… I think today will be difficult.]

“Ah.”

Fluster and disappointment rushed in simultaneously, but after hearing the reason, he couldn’t possibly tell him to force his way out.

“Yeah. It can’t be helped, I guess. See you next time.”

[I’m really sorry. Instead, next time I’ll ask you to buy me something even more delicious. Promise.]

He didn’t say he would buy something delicious, but rather asked to be bought something. He was still a cute fellow.

“Sure, I’ll buy you as much as you want. Let’s hang up.”

He added a word like a joke and ended the call.

As soon as the screen went black, the empty seats caught his eye.

“Why on earth is Kim Hyeongyu not coming?”

He made a call to check for now, but he didn’t answer. Then a single text message came out of nowhere. It said something had come up.

What on earth was going on before eating a meal? Somehow, it felt as though misfortune had settled on his shoulders once again.

When he was trying to fill his stomach with something stimulating to change his mood…

“How am I supposed to eat instant tteokbokki all by myself…”

Muttering in a dismayed voice, Ha-on raised his head before he knew it.

It so happened that there was a man walking in as the door opened.

He had briefly thought whether Cha Seojun or Kim Hyeongyu were pretending they couldn’t come just to tease him before walking in.

However, the moment he saw the face of the man entering, that thought evaporated completely.

It was a familiar silhouette and features that had become all too familiar. In particular, the shape of his eyes unconcealed even by disheveled bangs drilled in more distinctly the moment their gazes met.

It was Cha Jeongwon.

Ha-on was not surprised at all.

“It seems…”

With his eyes locked on Cha Jeongwon, Ha-on muttered.

“I’ve really been reeled in by that guy.”

Ha-on calmly raised his hand and welcomed Cha Jeongwon.

“Over here.”

He extended a greeting so naturally that anyone watching would think they had made plans.
