Who?

Me?

Even after hearing Cassiel’s thunderous remark, I didn’t show any reaction.

‘It’s better to just let things like this slide.’

I simply decided to watch and see how far he could run with his own ideas about ‘making good use of me’.

Apparently, he managed to sort out his thoughts much faster than I expected.

‘Well, in any case, as long as things stay peaceful, it’s fine.’

At least now, trouble probably won’t come looking for me because of him.

Still, there was a bit of lingering bitterness, so I responded bluntly.

“Even if you say you need me, I don’t really plan on helping.”

“You don’t have to do much… I just need you to snap me out of it whenever I lose my head.”

What is he talking about?

He expects me to do that for someone I don’t even care about?

As I immediately frowned, Cassiel quickly tried to explain himself.

“Of course, I know I need to pull myself together, too…”

As long as he knows.

After that, he kept glancing at me a few more times, then started talking to me more often from then on.

* * *

A month passed that way, then two months.

“…Haa.”

…This is a disaster. Damn it.

Leaning against the balcony railing overlooking the garden, I let out a silent sigh and buried my face in my hands.

‘Nothing is going right…’

Compared to that, Cassiel being all friendly despite my cold attitude is practically nothing.

Originally, Cassiel was supposed to stay just as prickly and difficult even after meeting Millia.

I never imagined that a single conversation with me would change him this much.

I never planned for him to have a change of heart.

But even setting that aside.

‘Not a single one of the plans I’d made has worked out.’

I gripped my head as I looked down at the lush garden.

The scent of grass and flowers drifting up from there was the only thing that managed to calm me down again.

Honestly, there were a lot of things that didn’t make sense.

Even after that last outing, I’d kept heading outside whenever I could.

I’d gone all over the Central District, searching every corner for Millia after failing to find her, and even crossed over into other districts.

But just like someone who had suddenly vanished, there wasn’t a single trace of Millia to be found, not even a single strand of hair.

My grand plan to introduce Acteon and Millia ahead of time ended up evaporating without any progress.

If the person who was supposed to meet him—Millia herself—never appeared, there was no way to even start.

I’d even tried getting information at taverns and such, but for some reason, there wasn’t a single clue about that girl.

‘And now, in just a few days, it’s the start of the new semester. It’s hopeless… There’s no chance.’

I thought I could handle any variable that cropped up after deciding to change the flow of things, but even so, I didn’t expect to be tripped up right from the start.

It wasn’t like saving Hyacine and entering Brondearn should have had any direct effect on Millia’s situation, as far as I could tell.

The only consolation was that, not long ago, Hyacine had safely had his first awakening.

It seemed like, after his awakening, he realized for himself that he was somehow different from others.

“Lippey.”

“What?”

“I just wanted to ask…”

Maybe that’s why, he said something unexpectedly cute.

“You said my predicted rank was high, right?”

“That’s right. I’d say you’re at least A-Class.”

“Then does that mean fewer people will mess with you or me?”

He used to have no confidence before his first awakening.

For him to say something like that now… He must have realized that his ability to sense and interact with mana was unusually strong.

‘Thanks to that, I guess I don’t have to worry about Hyacine anymore.’

If only I could find out something about Millia.

I was pacing around, wondering if there was any other way, when I heard someone approaching the room.

When I opened the door first, Belled was there, greeting me with a gentle smile.

“You’ve got sharp hearing.”

“Well, we get trained to develop our senses at school, too.”

“Ah, I see. But why do you look so troubled? Hmm, it’s not like you’re in bad shape…”

Well, it’s because I have to find a high-level Guide if I want to stay alive, so I’m anxious.

Even though I tried to act normal, was it really that obvious?
