Cassiel said he’d wait on the terrace on the first floor of the dormitory, then left.

Was it really okay to drag all this mud stuck to the soles of my shoes inside?

As I stood at the entrance, trying to knock off as much of the mud as possible, classmates in similar shape walked past me.

Their footprints trailed clearly across the floor with every step they took.

“Haah, forget it. Let’s just go…”

Resigned, I stepped into the girls’ dormitory. It was just as filthy.

The cadets who had returned earlier and quickly washed were now wiping the floor in front of their hallways with their damp hair.

Every time someone passed by, another shriek rang out.

“It’s dirty again!”

I offered apologies here and there as I made my way to my room, and just then—

“S-Senior?”

A junior who should’ve been upstairs was helping clean the senior area.

“Millia?”

“Ah, yes! Did you just get back from training too, Senior?”

As Millia greeted me cheerfully, a fellow cadet I was fairly close with shot me a sideways glance.

Alright, I get it. You’re telling me to go in quick before I drop more mud.

I gave a half-hearted nod and returned her glance with just my eyes, about to head into my room, when Millia stopped me.

“Um…”

“Hm?”

She wore that same troubled look as always.

It seemed like she had a lot she wanted to say to me.

‘Not that she’ll actually say anything today either.’

My grand plan of getting close to Millia and slowly learning what she knew had already been shattered long ago.

With the barrage of training and classes early in the semester, the trip to the capital, and now being drafted to Lomdina… There’d be no more chances.

Maybe my exhaustion showed on my face as I waited for her to speak, because Millia apologized first.

“Y-You must be tired… I’m sorry for taking your time. I just thought this might be yours.”

Her hands, surprisingly callused and covered in nicks, held out a small leather pouch.

“What is it?”

“I… I’m not really sure. I didn’t open it.”

“Isn’t it a banned item?”

The cadet who had been cleaning with Millia cut in.

Millia hurried to stop her.

“N-No way! It’s not a firearm or a blade or anything like that.”

“It’s not Lippey’s, is it? Doesn’t look like it. Could it actually be yours?”

With the way she bombarded her with questions, Millia was now sweating bullets.

Yikes, could she be any more obvious?

I didn’t know what it was, but it was clear this girl was trying something cute. I barely held back a laugh.

Still, maybe I should tease her a bit.

“I don’t use expensive calfskin like this. Look, barely a scratch on it. Someone like me couldn’t afford something this nice.”

“Then it must belong to someone else. Should I ask around the others?”

Millia panicked at the classmate’s obvious eagerness to shout. She looked like she was about to cry.

“Ah, no…”

“Nah, it’s mine.”

“Eh?”

I played dumb and grabbed the pouch. The girl narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

“You don’t even remember your own stuff? Didn’t you just say you don’t use expensive leather?”

“That’s because Acteon gave it to me.”

At the mention of Acteon, whose name had somehow become taboo, the classmate immediately backed off.

Amusingly, even Millia made a sour face at the name.

Still, for someone who’s supposed to be the female lead of the original story, she sure seems to hate Acteon.

Especially considering she already knew about his second awakening…

“I nearly lost it carelessly. Thanks for finding it.”

So she does have some information on Acteon.

That reaction when they ran into each other, hm. Guess I wasn’t mistaken.

As I curved my eyes in a smile, she mumbled a quiet “Y-You’re welcome…” and waved it off like it was nothing.

Anyway, I should check what this is, and why she gave it to me.

“I’ll go wash up now. Sorry for tracking in more dirt.”

Just before I stepped into my room, Millia’s rabbit-like eyes followed me.

After closing the door, I opened the pouch.

“…What is this?”

Inside was something I never would’ve expected.
