❖ ❖ ❖

“What did you say? You mean you won’t purchase anything? Not a single box? But we haven’t even looked at the products yet.”

I raised my voice unintentionally in shock. The exchange clerk, seemingly unsettled by my outburst, took a step back and nervously called over his superior.

“It seems our staff has caused some inconvenience, sir.”

The person in charge finally appeared, rubbing his hands together and speaking with a feigned casualness. He had been issuing various instructions from his seat without coming out.

The manager was clearly looking down on us. Perhaps it was because the goods we brought were from the Northern Continent and the Hezekian knights did not appear particularly grand. As this exchange mainly dealt with nobility, he seemed to find us laughable.

I frowned involuntarily, but the transaction had to come first. I was also aware of the anxious and uneasy gazes of the Hezekian people standing behind me.

Suppressing the rising anger, I tried to calmly explain.

“……This wool fabric is light and sturdy, and in terms of practicality, far superior to fur. Once sales begin, it will quickly become fashionable. Especially at this price……”

“Tsk tsk, look at you. You don’t know the first thing about the market.”

The more I tried to persuade him, the more it felt like I was hitting a wall.

“Sir, price is no issue for nobles. Whether it is light or warm, it’s not fur after all. Moreover, it is a fabric of unknown origin from the Northern Continent.”

“But……”

“Oh, that’s enough. Stop wasting time and move along. Maybe it will sell in some remote village or slum, but I wouldn’t count on it…… Ah, yes, sir. What brings you here?”

The manager completely ignored me and walked off toward another customer. I was left alone, tightly gripping the Northern Continent wool in my hands.

If I had known it would be like this, I should have brought Tristan along. I hadn’t expected that he would be useful at all. I had left him behind to avoid him snapping at the seasoned merchants in the capital, but now I regretted it. At least if I had been ignored, the sound of a sword might have made it feel less unfair.

“What will you do now, Your Highness, Grand Consort? Where will you dispose of all this wool?”

“The atmosphere doesn’t seem to allow even a fair price…… I shouldn’t have gotten involved in trading in the first place.”

The deep, sharp voice shot from behind, cutting into me. It was clear he wanted to scold me for presuming to act without knowing anything. And he had reason, considering I had insisted on going all the way to the Northern Continent myself. If this transaction failed, the livelihoods of the estate’s people would be in jeopardy immediately.

Yet I was puzzled. This shouldn’t be happening……. The fact that the System had opened an event and set a quest meant that making this fabric fashionable should be possible. So why was everything going wrong?

I suddenly froze. Could it be that the System wasn’t operating properly? Was it just issuing random quests?

‘Hey, System! What’s going on? Aren’t you supposed to give something achievable?’

……System under maintenance……

(No response)

Every time, the System seemed to crash and escape, and I wanted to give it a good shake. Well, come to think of it, it had occasionally assigned impossible quests before.

Like during the Hit Cycle, when Rutt overlapped and everything exploded before my eyes, and it told me to bring back a restraint from Seon……

Even without knowing much about BL plots, I knew that storyline made no sense. How many could eat the restraint and still hold back? It was fundamentally an impossible quest.

Why did I remember that now……

‘I’m doomed. What do I do now?’

The faces of the Hezekian retainers behind me were already contorted in despair. They realized long ago that I had no answer. I could hear the teeth of the short-tempered Gehardt grinding. Cold sweat ran down my neck.

The moment we stepped out of the exchange, I could already imagine them swarming around to scold me……

Still, I couldn’t linger here forever. I forced my heavy legs forward and finally stepped outside the exchange.
