The next moment, the greatsword slashed through the air like lightning.
Bang!
The party leader’s body hit the wall and tumbled to the floor, soaked in blood. There was no longer any sound of his agonized groans.
From the moment I entered the boss room, I had paid no attention to the party leader, who had no chance of survival.
All my focus was on the black monster wielding the greatsword.
Unlike the green-skinned monsters I had faced before, this Lizardman Warrior had black scales and dark skin. Even its exposed teeth and the greatsword it held were black. Only its eyes glowed red.
It looked as if a shadow itself had risen to life.
‘What is this?’
The black Lizardman Warrior had a deep cut from the crown of its head to its brow. Normally, targeting the head, neck, or heart is enough to kill humanoid monsters, and even if the core that powers the monster remained inside, it would have died.
“How is it still alive?”
-Uhm, even from what I can see, it shouldn’t be able to survive…
Echo agreed softly with my muttered words.
Even then, the Lizardman Warrior growled when it spotted Lee Sunho and me.
Ding-
An unexpected notification sound startled me.
The familiar system window appeared before my eyes.
<Shadow-Corrupted Lizardman Warrior (F-) detected.> <Deliver complete death and rest with your hands.> <Reward: Lifespan extended by 7 days>
A quest appeared just like when I was instructed to eliminate targets showing murderous intent.
‘Shadow-corrupted monster?’
Even setting aside the quest, I had never seen a monster labeled as “shadow-corrupted.” This was a setting I hadn’t encountered even when playing the game outside this world.
‘I don’t know what’s going on, but since there’s a quest and my lifespan is on the line… I have to defeat it somehow.’
Even if the quest hadn’t appeared, I doubted the black Lizardman would let us pass. I also needed its core for additional rewards.
As I drew my revolver, the black Lizardman Warrior sprang forward.
Kraaaak-!
Its roar was ear-piercing, and it moved far faster than any Lizardman I had faced. Its presence alone was overwhelming.
“Lee Sunho, stay back.”
I spoke quickly, putting some distance between him and the monster. To make sure the black beast focused on me, I fired the revolver without hesitation.
Bang bang bang!
I fired three shots precisely at vital points. One into the fractured head, one into the roaring neck, and one into the heart of the humanoid monster.
All three hits pierced perfectly, yet the red-eyed Lizardman Warrior kept charging.
‘It’s like a zombie.’
I needed to restrain its violent movement first.
I rolled to the side of the approaching Lizardman Warrior, aiming my barrel at its leg.
Bang!
The angled bullet shattered the joint behind its right knee. Black scales flew as the joint twisted grotesquely.
Bang!
The second bullet hit the same spot, splitting the rock-hard joint into pieces.
The monster’s massive leg buckled with a thud, throwing off its balance and causing its whole body to stagger.
Graaaah-!
The black beast, wobbling, roared again instead of screaming and swung its greatsword. Despite its broken leg, it did not falter. Indeed, it was like a zombie.
I drew a dagger, planning to deflect the attack. Considering the weight and trajectory of the greatsword, it would strain my arm, but it would allow me to slip inside.
However,
“With that body, you’ll get hurt trying to deflect.”
Again.
Without any sound, Lee Sunho had silently wrapped one arm around my waist.
